  Extend Remote
Posted by: lonc_25 - 2005-10-31, 03:48 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (19)

I am using the 45 key Hauppauge with a PVR150 remote. Currently the pc is in the basement, underneath the tv. I have drilled holes through the floor and everything is working fine. But...

The remote reciever is way too short...Does anyone have a good way for me to be able to lengthen it or a better way to use my remote?

I am looking for a pretty simple solution if one exists.

Thanks in advance.

  Wake, and stay that way
Posted by: capone - 2005-10-31, 03:01 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (9)

I'm wondering if this would be just a tweak:

I'd like to have an option to have the system wake for EPG, but stay awake. I run it at 5am, and this way it would be on when my wife comes down at 6. I know I could get her to wake it up, but it's a WAF thing.

I've been playing w/ standby & hibernate, and only stand by seems to behave w/ standby. It will will wake from hibernate to EPG, but not record. It seems more reliable w/ standby (I want to see it in action a few times before I commit).

  IRecordingSourceConfiguration.Load
Posted by: alibert - 2005-10-31, 01:12 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (6)

Hi,

i'm writing a plugin for a capture source. My config class implements the "IRecordingSourceConfiguration" interface.
There are three methods to manage the settings of the capture source: "Save", "Load" and "Delete". Two of them, "Save" and "Delete", provide a database connection as parameter, but "Load" doesn't?

Maybe I misinterpret the interface, but I have created a new table in the database (similar to BDA_RECORDING_SOURCE and GO7007SB_RECORDING_SOURCE), where I store the settings and values specific to my capture source. Storing works fine, but now I came to the point that those values need to be read out again from the database.

So, my question is, if it is intented to save and load the configuration for an external capture source in the database or not?

GB-PVR and Linux (or help with MythTV and MediaMVP)
Posted by: tiddlypom - 2005-10-31, 09:57 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (2)

I would like to do a bit to help MythTV as GB-PVR does not run on Linux yet (although it theory it might if it could run on Mono).

I would like to improve MythTV's support for the MediaMVP and get it to work in a similar way that you have got the integration between GB-PVR and the MediaMVP working - i.e. with a modified VNC protocol and running the UI on the host PC with 'hooks' that run up the MediaMVP's MPEG2 decoder for displaying video files and listening to MP3 recordings.

There is a native Linux application for the MediaMVP called MediaMVP Media Center but it is a little bit rough-and-ready at the moment and it would be nice to access MythTV's program guide from the MediaMVP like users of GB-PVR can do when using the MediaMVP.

I appreciate that the source code of the core part of GB-PVR is not being released but is there any chance of releasing at least the algorithms of how GB-PVR integrates with the MediaMVP or if not is there any chance in the future of GB-PVR being ported over to Linux/Mono?

  Non-linear zoom/stretch (Intelligent Zoom)
Posted by: andlju - 2005-10-31, 08:12 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

In the last update rollup of Windows MCE, Microsoft added the possibility of using so called "Intelligent Zoom". This mode is used for scaling up 4:3 images into full 16:9 widescreen, but it stretches the image non-linearily (i.e. the middle of the screen is hardly stretched at all while the left/right sides of the screen are stretched more). It also crops a little bit on the top/bottom.

Previously, I used the s-video input on my tv which made it possible for me to use the non-linear zoom on the tv (SuperWide). But with this addition it would be possible to use the VGA input instead - and that means a BIG difference in quality! Actually, the non-linear zoom in MCE is far superior to the one on my Philips TV...

I have absolutely no idea how MS implemented this, but if it is possible to add to GB-PVR too that would be fantastic!

  OSD in Tmeshift TV
Posted by: maxil - 2005-10-31, 03:11 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

When I initiate timeshift TV I loose the OSD. When in normal TV mode I can see both the popup description at the bottom of the screen and the mini guide, but in Timeshift mode I dn't get either. I'm using the Firefly remote and I'm using the "INFO/Back Tab" button to show the popup description (ctrl-b i think), and the "OPTION/Tab" button for the mini guide.

  playback not continuous
Posted by: SirJYK - 2005-10-31, 02:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

Just recently, my gbpvr playback for recorded files gets stuck on a frame while the audio continues. I can skip forward and the frame will change and remain frozen while the audio continues. I can play the same mpg files with media player just fine. Anyone encountering the same problems? My setup is: p3-850, 512 mb of ram, hauppaugge pvr-150.
Thanks.

  Best video card?
Posted by: ggee - 2005-10-31, 02:53 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (8)

So apparently, looking throught the forums, it seems that using just any video card with TV out is not good enough. I have an MSI GForce4 MX440. The video on the TV is not the greatest.

So what is the criteria? What is the minimum?

Good video out?
Good VMR9 support?

So I ask, what is the recommended video card to make BGPVR look the best?

Thanks,
Greg

  DVD Playback: Quality, Navigation issues
Posted by: venkman - 2005-10-31, 02:34 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Hi all,

I find that the rendering quality and navigation of the gbpvr dvd player (which I understand to be a directshow from the dvd software) is different from the player's own quality and nav.

I did read some of the helpful finds of windvd 7 registry entries that someone had posted and tried them out. They did improve the quality, however, there's still a lot of difference.

I'll try to as objectively as I can state the issues, maybe someone out there has a solution:
System Description:
3 year old athlon 1800+xp system with 750MB ram, nvidia Ti500 vid card, audigy platinum, 320GB of space for tv and dvd movies.
Connection:
Input: Hauppauge 150 inputs from antenna, and s-video for digital channels from comcast (hdtv) box.
Output: s-video to a hitachi 42" widescreen projection tv
Basic Game Plan: Create a movie juke box. Rip dvd's, remove extra features and any software such as interactual etc, create an iso and watch it "on demand" using gbpvr.

Black level quality/JPEGiness: Without the registry entry for DXVA I get a very jpeggy blotchy quality. However even with it in there the blacks are still a bit "muddy". Maybe its a gamma issue but it is noticeably off.

Audio: Audio settings from windvd don't map into gbpvr or the directshow (or however that works, a little clueless here on that one). As of now I do not have a receiver and surround system and just hook it into my stereo system. Basically the downconversion settings from windvd are not in effect when I play the dvd. However, it sounds quite good when I play using windvd.

aspect ratio: I've tried the F7 (mapped the * key to F7 on the remote) and the ratios provided are not the same as the ones from windvd. There is a grey bar on top and bottom. The windvd itself plays fine with the widescreen occupying the entire screen or the grey bars being fairly dark as to be not noticeable.

DVD Navigation: this has confused me the most. I have tried using config to set it to DVD Navigation and Intervideo navigation. Neither one provides a smooth interface. It appears to be a bit random in its behavior. Fwd/rew are my main basic problems. I've tried the setting it to step instead of speed up and that seems to work better. But there are certain dvd's that misbehave more than others. None of these problems occur with windvd.

I finally gave up fixing this and I mapped the "picture" button to launch windvd. Windvd default disk drive is set to the Daemon tool's map drive.
So, when I select a movie I hit stop and now that the movie is "mounted" I then hit the picture button which launches windvd.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Venkman
