  Trouble setting up Hauppauge WinTV USB2
Posted by: Colonel Forbin - 2005-08-24, 01:10 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Howdy all! I just purchased the Hauppauge WinTV USB2 (on sale for $40, normally $100!) and am having a bit of trouble getting the channel changer configuration set up. No matter which option I choose it results in one of several errors when trying to watch live TV. The error is either:

1. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

2. "Failed to locate configured capture device" (I know the device is working because the WinTV2000 software that was included works fine)

3. The program has a fatal error resulting in an abort/ignore/retry dialog box.

I've tried setting up a new profile in the USB-UIRT configuration where it asks me to point my remote at the IR receiver and push the 1 button until told to stop. I held the button for several minutes with no results.

If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated, or if you have even the slightest idea on how to possibly resolve this issue I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance.

  Missing one channel
Posted by: codymingus - 2005-08-23, 11:14 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

So this program is just about the coolest damned thing I've seen lately. Every day i go home, sit on the couch and start playing all my programs that gbpvr recorded the night before while i slept. I am, however, having a small issue with the tuning of channel 5. After i get the listings from zap2it, channel 5 (fox) becomes channel 36 (espn2). So when i go to channel 5 or 36 i get espn2. I miss the simpsons. :eek: The problem doesn't appear on my wintv2k app. Is there a way i can hack the frequency of my channels? Where do those settings live?

Thanks and keep up the good work Smile

  Virtual Dub Woes
Posted by: dmorley00 - 2005-08-23, 10:30 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I have been having this same problem for a while now; Everytime I try to reencode a MPEG-2 recording to AVI, the audio never sticks. Using MP3 as audio codec. It seems to just encode no audio, reguardless of what settings for the audio I choose. I have installed Lame MP3, and it still doesn't work right. Below is a screen shot of what I mean. Is there anyway I can find out what is happening(logs etc.)?

  Forum Functions Not Working - What's Up?
Posted by: KiwiKid - 2005-08-23, 09:49 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hey there,

A dumb question I know :confused:, but ever since I joined this forum I haven't been able to use the functions in the "Post New Thread" area of the site - like, "Bold" Quote" Smiles etc.

There are also no tips over the icons (above Guided / Enhanced Mode) to tell me what they are and clicking on them does nothing.

I'm running Firefox. Any suggestions?

  Dolby Digital Live output
Posted by: Gigantor - 2005-08-23, 09:27 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

Just a little tip I thought I'd share, because it took me forever to find what I needed on other forums.

I wanted to be able to output dolby digital 5.1 from my HTPC, but I wanted to connect it up to a proper HT speaker system, as most PC based speakers don't really cut it. Unfortunately, all the good digital receivers I looked at did not have an SPDIF input - but only an optical input. Also, I found that a number of PC applications, particularly games with 5.1 (i.e. Doom 3), did not put out proper 5.1 sound when connected to an external receiver. They seemed to revert to stereo sound.

I finally discovered the HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1 card, which is available quite cheaply. This little beauty has an optical as well as SPDIF output, and uses something called Dolby Digital Live to encode all 5.1 sound so that it works properly with external receivers. The only downside is that it doesn't have hardware EAX, so games take a performance hit when using EAX, but for me it's well worth it for the surround effect. I had to turn off Doom after a while because it started scaring the **** out of me!

Highly recommended.

  GBPVR won't start when skin other than "blue" used
Posted by: depjones - 2005-08-23, 09:21 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

Sorry, If this question has been before (it would seem there is some sort of easy solution I am just not seeing right now), but I searched through the forum and couldn't find it.

Anyway, on to the problem:

GBPVR works fine with the default skin "blue". I have installed several other skins by unzipping them and placing them in the skins folder along with "blue". They show up in config as available to use, but when I choose them and try to restart GBPVR the application won't start.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  playing video files with french accented characters in title...
Posted by: navytoke - 2005-08-23, 08:44 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (16)

Hi everybody,

I've been using gbpvr for a few months now and this is really a great software !!! Recently, (since I installed v92.11), recording programs with zap2it titles in french with "é" or "à" characters makes it impossible to play them back on mediamvp.

The hauppauge software plays them back ok... The pc plays them back ok but not media mvp.

What is fun is that I had an old file recorded in april (but I don't know exactly with wich version v9107 or 9105 ?) with french characters in title and this one plays ok with current release so it seems to be happening from recording time (mpeg file header ?).

Just renaming the file in windows explorer without any french characters makes it readable again by mediamvp.

This is just a bit annoying because renaming the filename created by zap2it guide removes it from the database etc...

Any help would be appreciated,

  GBPVR and McAfee McShield.exe
Posted by: nickell - 2005-08-23, 07:36 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Just trying to setup GBPVR for use with a MediaMVP for the first time and I am encountering several problems. The most serious one is that on startup on my P4 2.4GHz system, it causes the system resources used by McAfee's antivirus program to vary between 55 and 100%, slowing everything down. Any help for a newbie appreciated!

  Overlapping?
Posted by: UKGuest44 - 2005-08-23, 06:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Bit of an odd problem here

When trying to explore into some conflicts shown in GBPVR, it would seem I have overlapping programs.

I'm not sure how this came about, but somehow, I have 3 programs (exactly the same) at the same channel at nearly the same time (each one starting and ending 5 minutes later) - IE

3:05 -> 3:45
3:10 -> 3:50
3:15 -> 3:55

Naturally this lead to conflicts.

This is only happening with one particular program

Any idea what's happening, and more importantly any way to stop it and only go with the right one?

Thanks a lot
