  Conflict resolution bug...
Posted by: chasef - 2005-07-26, 12:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (13)

Sorry to add more to the fray, sub, but what's the deal with the conflict resolutions? I don't know if anyone else is still experiencing this or not but ever since a few releases ago, I've had trouble with my conflicts resolving correctly. A show stays in the Conflicts section even though it's been resolved (either through the Conflicts resolution method or resolving it by deleting the conflicting recording from Pending Recordings). Lemme know if anyone knows anything, please!

Thanks!

  ways to make gbpvr prettier
Posted by: reven - 2005-07-26, 12:59 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (57)

um this has be kind of discussed before, like when refering to mediaportal and gbpvr, the most common statement it "gbpvr is more stable, but mediaportal is prettier", i was just wondering/pondering how to make gbpvr more pretty (pretty is a fun word to say Smile), and i was wondering if anyone else has ever thought about this, and if they had had any ideas how to achieve this? like mediaportal does this thing that slides the menus onto the screen (i find this one annoying, but its pretty), and i was thinking of redoing the main menu to look more err informative, like a nice easy way of displaying a lot of information without being to cluttered (like jeffs (i think its jeffs) panel that changes). i want to be able to display a few things on the main menu
- notifications (if someone signs on to msn, or you get a new email, or someone calls, a recording is about to start etc)
- music playback (i want to show this whenever music is playing all the time, so if music is playing this will be shown ALWAYS)
- a newsticker (the current one is very smooth, this could be, and probably is because of how gbpvr does this)
- then just other useful stuff like how much recording time we have left, the current weather etc (this one should change).
- task images (like a video graphic for "Video Library" etc)

now thats kind of a lot of info on one screen so it has to be designed well (and at the moment no skin, well maybe the street etc ones) does this all that well. so whos gots some ideas on layout?

also for plugins do you guys want the selected file to scroll the filename if its to long to be displayed ? (look at mediaportal here, xbmc also does this, and probably mce)

any other ideas? i just want to start making gbpvr pretty (it looks kind of static at the moment).

sure pretty isnt everything, gbpvr is extremely stable (and thats why we all use it and not mediaportal) but we can make it prettier (see i told you i like that word) so thoughts/suggestions/want me to shut up ?

Small change to the web admin
Posted by: chasef - 2005-07-26, 12:55 AM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

Could check boxes be put in for multiple selections in the Manage Recordings section? It just makes it a lot easier to select all the episodes that you want to delete from your Pending Recordings in one fell swoop instead of having to click each one and wait for the page to reload.

  Crash After Playback
Posted by: blip - 2005-07-25, 08:31 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Each time that I watch a recording, I have to pause/stop before getting to the end, otherwise the program goes black and I have to force quit from the computer. Anybody know why this would happen? After it goes black, the remote won't do anything (menu, play, etc)
thanks!

Shorts stops while live tv, video watching or time shift
Posted by: Joe Cool - 2005-07-25, 08:02 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (11)

Hello,

i´m using a pvr 150 mce with an athlon xp 2200 processor, asus 128MB VT9520 video card, 512MB RAM and 80GB Samsung SV0802N HD, XP prof.

With WINTV all is going very well even the time shift mode.

But i want to use gbpvr. Here have the problem that every time if the program has a access to the HD the picture stops for a very short time. The problem occures in the following situations:

1. Live TV - while the mini guide is on the screen
2. Watching a video - same as 1.
3. Always while time shift mode

How can I solve this problem?

Hauppauge PVR USB2 quality of reception
Posted by: ludogomez - 2005-07-25, 08:00 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi,

I have a problem with the GBPVR and the Hauppauge PVR USB2. The quality of the reception is bad in record or live TV.
But with Wintv2000, I can record or view live TV with a good quality.

I can't understand why I have difference between this 2 software.

Thanks for your response.

Bye

transcode: mpeg->xvid or wmv (newbie question)
Posted by: venkman - 2005-07-25, 07:08 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello all,

I tried the transcode to xvid through mencoder (and just about every other freeware out there, tmpegenc, flask etc) and I'm not getting comparable quality video output. I've tried to mess with the options to the best of my abilities but nothing I've done so far seems to produce a reasonable quality video from the mpeg files of the tv recordings.

I tried a software called blaze media player and it was able to convert to wmv (including other formats). But what made me take notice was the file was nearly 1/3rd in size and I could not perceive loss of quality (in the wmv file).

My question is:
From what I can see from online searches, it appears a lot of people are looking to create xvid files - is there any advantage over a wmv file in doing so?

Thanks,

  Show Description in Recordings Area
Posted by: zed2xs - 2005-07-25, 06:23 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (2)

Does anyone know of a plugin or skin that gives you more detailed descriptions in the Recordings area?

Specifically, I don't want to have to click on a show's title to see it's description. The description should always appear when ever I highlight a specific show. I would especially like to see the show description in the Conflict resolution area. It's hard to know which show I should record if I don't know if it's one I've seen or not!

I looked at some skins XML and wondered if there was some way to modify the recordings XML to give me this extra information but I couldn't find any REAL explination of just how powerful skins are or how to write the XML for them.

Maybe I could do it myself if I had good documentation?

MVP & DHCP server + Recording info lost
Posted by: cerobit - 2005-07-25, 04:47 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (4)

Hi all,

Power was lost last night due to a transformer blowing (wow was it loud!!).

This morning my MVP wasn't working. It was stuck on the requesting DHCP addie/ Boot message. Ran ethereal and saw that the MVP box wasn't being assigned an IP. I'm only running the GBPVR software on XPSP2 Home edition. No MediaMVP or DHCP software. (I'd installed the MediaMVP sw intitially but then removed it). Btw, I'm running a non-managed 100Mbit switch on the PVR network.

Searched the forums and deduced that I should reinstall MediaMVP, set the processes to manual. Did that and shut down GBPVR. MediaMVP interface worked fine on the MVP. Shut MMVP down rebooted and GBPVR interface is back to working.

So, i have a couple questions...

1. Do i now need to install a DHCP server to automaticaly assign an IP to the MMVP box in event of another power off event? If so, what server is recommended? I could upgrade to XP pro if it has one.

2. The GPVR interface doesn't show any of my recordings. How to resurrect them? The lady won't be happy if she has to search through the video library ..heheheh..

EDIT: upon searching more..I see the recording prob source. I'm recording to a USB drive and the drive wasn't seen right away on startup. Likely the info was deleted then. Anyway to recover?

TIA!
