I have a need to play DVD's on my PVR. It is a custom rig that is bare bones and is only for GB-PVR. It does nothing else. I did buy a SD Xcard for it but decided to output the TV to the PVR350 card which works great. However the Boss wants to play DVD's. Which is fair enough I suppose. What do I need to do to get the Xcard working? Do I slap the card in and install disk 1 drivers and configure in GB-PVR?
I have tried this card in my normal PC and thought the output was good but it crashed all the time when I gave it the odd avi file. Am I being unkind? Any help would be usefull.
I've experimented with file-sharing the GBPVR MDB database between a "server" machine with the TV-tuner card and a "client" machine which has no tv-tuner. This does seem to work for the database stuff, anyway (although my "Available" recordings are not listed on the "client" machine - possibly because of drive mappings/file availability?). All recordings are accessible through My Videos which I have pointing to my recordings shared folder.
Are there any database-safety concerns with this approach? I imagine that Access handles all data-locking... but is GBPVR equipped to handle multi-point access to the MDB?
It would probably be a good idea to disable EPG updates on the client machine.
What would happen on the client machine if its running while the server is recording something? Would the client attempt to record even though it does not have a tuner card?

I don't believe the comskip file is being transfered with the mpg and dat file. Is that something that can be added to the archive process? Or should it be doing that and something with my setup is incorrect?
I'd love to be able to use the web interface (or any other interface) to stream around the local network. I suppose I could always mount windows file shares, but I'd prefer to use the web interface.
Bonus points for love down-encoding so, for example, I could stream at a much lower bit-rate if I happened to be at the office and wanted to watch remotely.
It seems like using something like VideoLan would allow me to do most of this, but it'd be nice if it were integrated into GBPVR. If anyone has any VideoLan faq's or how-to's to integrate with gbpvr, that'd be helpful!
Having decided to go for an MVP as an alternative display device to the flaky PVR350, I did a ton of research on Saturday into the lowest cost available from a repuatable retailer, and thought it may save someone a bit of legwork to post my results here (although of course these things are constantly changing).
After trawling all the main comparison shopping services, as well as all the online outlets listed on Hauppauge's web site. the cheapest by a fair margin were:
Maplin Electronics (GBP49.99 inc VAT - with free shipping to UK Mainland), and: Savastore.com (GBP46.99 inc VAT, GBP52.22 inc UK shipping)
Maplin charged only GBP7 to ship to Ireland, Savastore wanted about GBP15, putting Maplin a few quid further ahead for me. I could have even saved the 7 quid by ordering through one of Maplin's Dublin stores (it's not a stock-item in the shops here), but for me it's not worth the time & hassle factor of going in to pick it up.
I've yet to see how promtly they deliver, but past experience of their mail order service has been good (despite what people may say about the spotty oiks that man (boy?) their stores.), and the online order status changed to "printed for picking" whilst I was writing this (I ordered after hours Saturday), which is a good sign. OTOH, stock levels now read "Within 28 days", so either I got the last one, or I'm going to be twiddling my thumbs for the next month!
It would be interesting to see how this compares elsewhere - I only looked at UK retailers to cut delivery time, but I understand that the US model is essentially compatible, having a universal PSU (adapter required) and composite & s-video out as opposed to scart (which may actually suit some users better rather than having to source scart to s-video cables for a non-scart TV).

I'd love to have a vertical line in the TV Guide showing the exact current position of what's going on. Nothing fancy, just a simple line that would progress every 10 to 20 seconds or every minute. As it is now, it's quite hard to know exactly where in the guide one is right now.

I'm trying to setup a HTPC with GBPVR, originally I tried two ATI TV wonders but that didn't work. Looks like the recomened setup from just about everyone is a Pair of Hauppauge PVR-150/150MCE, so thats what I'm switching to. I just got the PVR-150 and the 150MCE is on the way. After I installed the 150 I got gbpvr to run nicely, but I'm not entirely happy with the quality of the video, it seems less sharp than either the old ATI card I replaced or regular broadcast, and there is noticeable Blurring when there is alot of action on TV. Any idea what might cause this? Alot of people rave about this card and don't mention any such problem, so I wonder what It could be.
