New User - No Live TV
Posted by: Atomike - 2005-02-06, 11:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Just finished putting together my GB-PVR machine  -and no video.

I'm using a Radeon All-In-Wonder (the original -the one before the numbering system) for my TV out.

EDIT: updated the drivers to the PVR-250 and everything works!

New Question now:  All is fine except for 2 areas:
Dropped frames. The picture is a litttle jerky sometimes. I am completely assuming this is due to my slow machine (800 mhz Duron).  Right? yes? time to upgrade?
Ok, problem 2 - colors.  The picture seems over-saturated, especially the reds. Other colors are darker and uglier than on my TV. I can change some settings on my Radeon All-In-Wonder, but I haven't had much luck - it's probably a 4 or 5 year old card.  Do you imagine that getting a new vid card fix the colors? If, so what's a good cheap one with S-video out that won't stink? Newegg.com has lots of Radeon 7000's for around 30 bucks.

  Video Archive problem
Posted by: aegisx - 2005-02-06, 09:44 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (5)

Im having a problem with the archive plugin. Ever since I upgraded to .9 and the new plugin version the show episode names are not resolving. It is just giving me dates. Episodes before the upgrade have titles, episodes after the upgrade are date/time.

Config: skin editor for easy font changes
Posted by: reedmikel - 2005-02-06, 09:42 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (10)

Since this softare is no doubt used on a wide range of displays/TVs, sure would be nice to have an easier way for the newbie who does not want to spend time learning all the editing details buried in SKIN.XML files. I have not yet found any docs on all the object types in the skin files. Many are obvious, others not so obvious. Plus, it would reason that if one needs larger fonts for say Video Library, probably need it for all other modules too (assuming same display device is being used). So it would be nice if fonts for various object types (buttons, titles, text lines etc) could be done on a *global* basis, rather than just an individual module's skin. So offer some area to select default/global fonts. Make row heights proprtional to font size so one only has to change the font size, not the row height as well...

It's a great program, but could definitely be made more newbie-friendly. I expect many less technically savvy users do not want to have to edit .XML files...

SKIN.XML-Docs on changing fonts, line heights etc.
Posted by: reedmikel - 2005-02-06, 09:02 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I use GB-PVR with a MVP unit and find the default font sizes in Video Library, where I spend most of my time, way too small. I have a 24" TV that is connected to the MVP, located about 15' away from where I watch.
So I want to increase some font sizes, particulary the scrolling box containing the text listings/files in Video Library. I found a related article in the forum, but it was very vague and simply said to copy an existing Skin folder, renaming it to something else (e.g. "My Skin&quotWink. Then it suggested to edit the SKIN.XML file. So I edited C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin\My Skin\Video Library, changing the font for TextStyle name "ListText" in the <TextStyles> section. This did increase the font size, but now the *height* of each text line is too small to fully display the larger font. Anybody know how to edit the height of this object so it can accomodate larger fonts. I realize that will mean less visible lines in the scrolling box - that's OK.

Any tips or documentation on doing such tweaks to GB-PVR would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks to all!

  Nova-T Recording Sync
Posted by: gbq57 - 2005-02-06, 07:27 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (20)

v.908... I've eventually got the Nova-T recording by installing a demo copy on InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2 (this gets the mux filters required). However all my recordings seem to have a minimum of 1 second time lag on the sound - it seems consistent throughout the recording and via MVP/showtime. Any ideas?

  Widescreen (16:9) MVP
Posted by: gbq57 - 2005-02-06, 07:06 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (2)

I'm gradually getting a Nova-T card and MVP unit working. I've noticed that the MVP output from a recording is in 4:3 format (on the PC the whole widescreen image is there). How do I get the full 16:9 picuture via the MVP?

Anyone got an Intel D865gbf motherboard?
Posted by: bgowland - 2005-02-06, 06:44 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I'm thinking about replacing my Asus P4V8X-X mobo as I'm not convinced it's quite right in the head.

Got my eye on the Intel D865gbf (the hardware guys at work claim you can't go wrong with an Intel chipset - hmmm, I'll take their word for it.

Anyone got one of these? Specifically, the Asus hangs at startup if I have my PVR500 in unless I replace the AGP graphics card with a PCI one. That doesn't bode well and makes me feel a bit uneasy about the mobo in general.

Cheers,
Brian
