First off let me congratulate you on a great product.

Everything working fine for me but the FM I've downloaded the latest update and it still will not work and crashes my PC as soon as I select a station.

Heres the error :

M/B: Asus A7m266-D
Proc: 2 x AMD MP2000+
Mem: 2 x 512Mb PC2100
Vid: Nvidia Ti4200
TVCard: PVR-350

Note: Sub has nothing to do with the process I'm about to describe. If you try this method, and mess up your GBPVR application, do not ask him for help. I'll try to answer questions regarding this. Sub may or may not ever "officially" support MSDE or Sql Server as a database for GBPVR. The initial notion for doing this came from a Wishlist item, and Sub's response that initially GBPVR was developed using MSDE as the database, and that the SQL used was pretty generic.

Well, I was curious if the current version of GBPVR could be made to use a SQL Server database such as MSDE. After much trial and error, and many reinstalls of GBPVR on my development machine I think I have it working. I've checked all the logs, and they are all saying they are using the SQL Server connection string, and my access database last update time stamp has not changed (even though the LDB for it is getting updated). Not to sure why that is getting updated, but it is.

Regardless, from some brief testing, a couple of items I have noticed:

1. Data Access seems much quicker. Noticeably so with the Web Admin, and building the initial TV Guide page.

2. TV Guide in the main GBPVR application also populates much quicker.

3. Refreshed my EPG data from Zap2It, and refresh time took half the time it normally does.

Now, to get this to work is not for the faint of heart. You have to follow certain steps. I'm not going to go into great detail but here is what needs to be done.

1. Install MSDE either from your Office XP CD, or you can download a copy at http://www.asp.net/msde/default.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1

2. You'll also need a Manager for MSDE as it doesn't come with one. A very basic one that will let you add new users to the system can be found at: http://www.whitebearconsulting.com/Utilities.htm

3. After MSDE is installed, reboot your system, or start the MSSQL service in your services panel.

4. Run the MSDE Manager and a user named gbpvr as a SQL Server user. I just set the password to the same as the user name. Also, I gave this user full authority to the SQL Server system.

5. Launch Access 2000 (or newer), and load the GBPVR database.

6. From the menu, select Tools -> Database Utilities -> Upsizing Wizard. Select Create New Database, when prompted give it the name of the Database, the gbpvr username you created, and the password. Also, name the database GBPVR (the default is GBPVRSQL). Follow the prompts, and when it asks, select the No Application change radio button. The wizard will migrate all tables, and data to SQL Server.

Next you'll need to modify your GBPVR config.xml, so that it points to the new database location.

Important: If the GBPVR Recording Service is currently running, Stop the service.

1. Find the DataBaseConnectionString element, and change it to something like this:
Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=(local);User Id=gbpvr;Password=gbpvr;Initial Catalog=gbpvr;

Change the user Id, and Password, to the user you created, and the Initial Catalog to the database you created using the Upsizing Wizard.

2. Next, shutdown and reboot. You could probably just stop the GBPVR Recording Service, but have found that the best way is to just shutdown and reboot the system.

3. Once the System reboots, everything should be as it was before, except you will now be using MSDE as the database. You can check to see if GBPVR is using your new database setting by checking the GBPVRTray.exe.log file. Also, when you launch the Config.exe, and the GBPVRRecording Service, their logs should also specify have the new connection string displayed.

That is it. A couple of notes. Do not remove the MDB file. If you do so, Windows will try and repair the GBPVR installation. Trust me, this caused me to have to uninstall and reinstall my GBPVR application many times.

Why would you want to switch?

1. Mainly for Speed. SQL Server/MSDE is much quicker than Access at doing queries. It is optimized for speed.

2. Enhanced querying capability for future plugin development. Similar steps for migrating Jorm's Zap2It meta data database to MSDE could be undertaken. With that database loaded there as well, it would allow for fairly simple cross database queries to be undertaken, to provide extra information for the GBPVR application and plugins.

3. Reliablity and data integrity. Access has always been buggy when it comes to database integrity. Loss of data, and index corruption were very common in the past.

4. It gives the end users a choice, of where to have it installed. If you already have a MSDE application on your system, now you can store and manage the GBPVR database there as well.

Why did I do this?

A. Mainly for my own curiosity. I currently only have this combination setup on my development machine. I had originally tried to get MySQL running, and actually came very close, except the OLEDB drivers are very buggy and I kept being prompted for username and password everytime GBPVR would access the database. Plus I wanted to see what type of speed difference, if any would occur.

Do any other PVR applications give you this option?

A. Not that I'm aware of. I've used BTV in the past, and most of their information is stored in XML files, which is good and bad. I have no idea what GAM, MediaPortal, or any other PVR software uses as their database. This may make GBPVR unique in this aspect.

I'm trying to increase the recording quality using the "Quality Profile Settings" under "Edit Recording Source -> Direct Recording Configuration".  It seems that no matter which settings I choose, it gets reset to "Medium Quality".

Just looking, I don't see where it gets updated in a config file (but then it's late, and I may just be looking past it).  Any pointers? This was happening with both 0.23.8 and 0.23.11.

- Added settings in direct.ini and go.ini to change the brightness/contrast/hue/saturation etc, for those that aren't happy with the driver defaults.
- Fixed a bug that could result in a live tv recording file being overwritten
- Fixed a bug with season recordings which could skip certain shows for zap2it users
- Fixed a bug with selecting "ready" recordings when the new grouping feature was disabled.
- Fixed a bug with rewinding past the start of the video on the MVP.
- The blank key on the Hauppauge remote (or ctrl-O on the keyboard) will catch up to "near" live tv.
- Removed requirement for ADO. Too difficult to deploy.
- Added code to ignore very small random mouse movements. For some people these were causing the OSD appear often.
- Fixed a bug that would stop .avi playing correctly.
- Added initial support for PVR150 remote.

I don't know if it's possible, but it's a idea.

I have a PVR 250, with problems with Live TV. I receive audio, but no video. I have all the Playback defaults for 238
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

I have got the gbpvr service running fine on my computer, I can record programs and view them from the computer. I cannot get GBPVR to come up on the Media MVP box on my tv though.

It gets stuck on the "contacting servers" phase of boot up. I do have GBPVR running as a service. I can get the Hauppauge software to come up on Media MVP and I can even watch shows that GBPVR has recorded on my TV though the Media MVP.

I am running windows xp service pack 2 with firewall disabled. How do I get the Media MVP to boot GBPVR?

I am running .227. I uninstalled .238 thinking that that might have been my problem.

I did a search of the forums for "contacting server" but that didn't get me any answers. How can I get it to boot?

I'm using it with a Hauppauge PVR-350 with direct output over SCART and it works great. I have no monitor and so I'm managing the PC with UltraVNC. DVD-Tool is PowerDVD 5.

The most things works great. But in the first time of installation and using I have collected a few questions:

1. Why isn't it possible to search in this forum? Or where can it be done?
2. How can I play *.wmv-files?
3. I have tried to run the DVD2MPEG and after the first errormessage and generating the folder C:\DVD it does nothing when I try to start it. No HD-activities or progressbar or else.
3.a. I have activated the DVD-Button in the settings but it is not shown in the mainmenu.
4. I have tried to run the DVDripper and it works. But how can I show the ripped DVDs with GB-PVR?
5. Is it possible to show *.dvr-ms files with GB-PVR? With Windows Media Player it's no problem?
6. I have generated a folder for my MP3-files and copied all my folders in this folder. But if I try to play one or all files of a folder it does nothing. Can you give me a tip, what to do?
7. I have activated comskip and it seems to work fine. I have found textfiles in the recordingsfolders. But trying to use this information does not work for me. Is it a "0" (Null) or an "O" which have to be pressed before skipping? I have tried both and maybe I'm stupid. ;-)

ive made a new plugin "My Pictures", its pretty basic, has slideshow, rslideshow, 4 different views (list, icons, big icons, preview).

you can zoom in and out of an image whilst in fullscreen mode (doesnt have the same bug "Picture Library" does when zooming). theres only one bug im trying to fix now (well one that i know of) which when you zoom in, it always returns to the very center of the image, and not where you well focusing on (if already zoomed in). once i fix this little bug ill send it to sub to upload.

same interface as "My Videos" so any skin developer, you can pretty much skin two plugins with the same skin.xml (a few changes, just preview mode vs details mode).

I am not sure if this is the right place for this, but I can't seem to find another other place thats better. Searching the forums hasn't netted me anything either. So when all else fails ask.

I am using the MVP without a PVR card, and I honestly don't watch much TV. I already have a PVR from my satelite company too. What I do use the heck out of is the MVP to playback Movies, Music, Pictures, Internet Radio, etc.

The GBPVR Software takes my default capabilities and puts the MVP on crack. I love it, and I certainly appreciate all the work and effort being put into it. I plan on making a donation soon in fact. I am having issues with a few things tho.

1.) Often when using the device things will just slow down and eventually after clicking trying to get a response I get the normal MVP screen back. I am not sure whats up with that. I have not upgraded to the newest version yet because it seemed mostly directed towards the TV aspect.

2.) When using the DVDRipper plugin, it does what its supposed to do, however I can't play that file back on my MVP and thats what I was hoping to use it for. I have jacked around with Dr.Divx, DVDx, SmartRipper, etc and I have to just be retarded, because I can't ever get it to work. I get errors, applications just quit, etc. Any specific suggestions?

3.) DVD2MPEG - Thats what I was hoping to get working right. I have downloaded and installed all the required elements as dictacted from the PDF, however it's not functioning as advertised.
a.) I am not getting any log anywhere from it as the pdf says there should be. I can't figure out how to get it working so I can at least see what the problem is. I have ran searches on my computer to find it in case it was somehow in the wrong place.
b.) The DVD Decrypter works like a champ, then besweet does it's business, after that it closes and it appears another windows comes up and immediately goes away so fast I can't even tell what it is. I have nothing in my event viewer saying there is a problem either.

At this point nothing else happens and I never get my finished files but I can see the working files in my Temp directory. I have pasted in below my config file as directed by the instructional pdf. Maybe I screwed up and you can help.

Also below are my system specs so that you can see my environment. Thanks so much for everyones help and time on this. It's an incredible tool and if I can get these last few things to work, I will be in heaven. Thanks!
