Since I have recently joined a test development group at work and am thinking a lot these days on how to break software I wondered if those who are regulars at testing Sub's new releases are interested in writing up a core set of tests to work through?

I think this would benefit GBPVR and help find problems and verify fixes. When you consider GBPVR works in all timezones, with how many different types of cards (individually used and combined), with manual, scheduled one off or season recordings with the ability to watch live TV (and record with multiple cards) and a heck of a lot of other stuff some formalised testing would be good.

Firstly let me say congrats on an excellent peice of software, bought myself an MVP a few days ago and was just looking to re-skin the app and then stumbled accross GB-PVR (WOW! I was very impressed).

Ok on to my first problem.
When using the Video Library tab, it correctly opens the directory where videos are stored and lists movie folders. Upon Selecting a folder on the MVP I do not see the movie listed ony the PREVIOUS DIRECTORY icon is shown, yet if I try the same on the GBPVR PC client it works fine, any ideas why this may be ?

Second Question,
I would really like to get the LiveTV/Recording functionality working. I do not have a TV tuner card in my machine I use the video in on my GF4 graphics card, this combined with Virtual VCR allows me to record whatever station I'm watching on my cable box.
Is there anyway to make GBPVR support this input as all I would need to purchase is an IRblaster to change the channel on the cable box. If this is not possible what about a cheap TV tuner card ? dont understand why i would kneed to buy an expensive PVR card.

Hi, I've a question regarding standby functionality. From several topics I understand that gbpvr can wake up the pc when it needs to start recording. What I've tried is to standby the machine (suspend to memory) and then wait until the machine was woken up...but it never was. What kind of setup is needed to make this work?

For my benefit and no doubt the hordes of others who will follow in the future would you mind giving me (in Auckland) a one/two three guide to the setup of your software.

Intro
I have a 350 card and mediaMVP which I have configured and is working using the Hauppauge software. (It didn't originally find any local channels specific for NZ and only found channels when I searched for all countries).
I have a Sky digital feed coming to my PC through a standard aerial line, downstream from my tv.

1) Do I load GBPVR ontop of what I have, leaving current software where it is?

2) Are there any adjustments I need to do to my firewall, I am running Win XP Pro service pack 2 and the standard windows firewall and need to specify any exceptions for GBPVR programs that will access my PC?

3) Do I need to turnoff the existing MediaMVP services, and if so how?

4) Do I need to do any further channel setup for NZ,

5) Can I download program guides for Auckland, at present?

6) Is there anything else that I am likely to need to do?

Hey all,

I'm a relatively new GBPVR user that was so happy with it I ran out and bought a new hard drive, but I've been having problems scheduling recording on it.  All the recordings start fine, but get interrupted 1/3 - 1/2 of the way through (or sometimes after only a minute or two).  I've looked at the logs but I don't see any error messages there.  I got the latest version (.193) but the problem's still there.  

The hard drive is a Western Digital 160 gig HD, formatted NTFS with 4k clusters, and I'm running Windows XP Pro.  My old hard drive is FAT32 and all scheduled recordings work fine on it.  Capture card is a Hauppauge 250.  I'm not completely sure the problem is due to GBPVR because I tried WinTV's scheduler and I didn't see any files at all on the new drive.  I might have configured it wrong though.  Manual recording on WinTV seems to work, but I haven't tried it in GBPVR.

What's weird is that I tried defragging the new drive since it was heavily fragmented (30%)after a bunch of downloads.  Right after that I tried a scheduled recording and it worked fine, so I thought the problem was the fragmentation, but subsequent recordings haven't worked.  I've seen people online suggest turning off Windows indexing for the drive, so I tried that, but it didn't seem to help.  I'm considering reformatting the drive (possibly to FAT32), but I thought I'd ask around.

The problem post I made earlier on July 29.((=Topic: Problem with new release V0.019, Channel Changer USB URIT) has returned again after reinstalling and getting the program V0.019 working.

I went back to V0.018l and it will change channels though the USB UIRT and will change then record the correct TV program. Have been using V0.018l since August 1st and it has changed channels correctly and the recorded TV programs are fine. Had some time to reinstall and play with V0.019 the last couple of days and can not get it to change channels correctly all the time though the USB UIRT. Also unable to enter in any new code definition as the setup program with cycle though the numbers automatically. Has any else had this problem?

The only change I noted in the setup config program of the USB UIRT setup was the addition of the enter key code in the setup.

Here is the text from my first posting. I am having the same problems again.

I have a problem with the newest release V0.019. I uninstalled the V0.018L. And installed the new version. As recommended.

My problem is that the USB URIT setting on the configuration program of V0.019 do not seem to be working correctly. I set a new definition for my DirecTV remote using the USB-UIRT CHANNEL CHANGER CONFIGURATION menu. The only new change I noted was the addition of the "OK" or "ENTER" after you were prompted the numbers 1 thru 0 which I entered and then named DirecTV. I chose not to check any of the options Zero pad channel, Send ENTER/OK after transmission, or Use three digit channel numbers. This setting worked fine with V0.018L and would change the channels on my DirecTV receiver and allow the GR-PVR to record the correct programs.

But on the new release V0.0.19 it seems to change the channel only one time then stop. I can record the first program schedule to be recorded the recording scheduled after that will not change the channel setting on my DirecTV receiver. The USB URIT will flash like it is sending the signal but the channel stays the same. I also tried to use the manual record to see if the channel changer would work but no luck there it will not change the channel but will flash like it is sending a signal. At first I thought it was a problem with my USB URIT or the driver for the USB URIT so I uninstalled my driver thru the DEVICE MANAGER in WinXP. Then plugged the USB URIT back in and installed the driver again. I also went in to the GR-PVR Configuration menu and went to USB-UIRT CHANNEL CHANGER CONFIGURATION and was going to create a new definition for DirecTV receiver I click on the NEW to config a new definition.

Here I believe is the problem when I do that now the window comes up and you are to enter the numbers the program will cyclic though all the numbers and the enter key or OK with out me pushing the keys on my remote then it is prompting me for then ask me for a name for my new profile.

I tried several time the its the same the Prompts are displayed and ask you to press a key number and it says to release number and going to the next all with out me pressing any keys at all! It act as the program is stuck in a loop. Then asks for a name for your new profile!

The USB URIT worked fine in the V0.018l and can reinstall it so I can record programs. But I really like you new V0.019 and the fast forward and reverse works for me in this release.

Hopefully this is a minor bug?

Record Season doesn't seem to be working. I can see it in the recurring list but it doesn't record anything. Also, I can't play a program while it's recording. Didn't this used to work? I'm using .193 w/ a 350 and MVP. I did an uninstall as well as deleted the folder then did a complete reinstall. Still having problems.

Great program, I've taken to using it exclusively. A few things for your list, feel free to tell me they're user error, because I wouldn't be surprised.

1. When I try to set the recording quality on my WinTV USB PVR 2, the setting does not "stick". 'Medium' quality is the default, if I change it to 'High', and click OK, and then go back into the capture device configuration, it will be back to 'Medium' again. I am not sure if the setting is saved or not. It might be the dialog not displaying the setting which is actually saved.

2. I have noticed that GB-PVR doesn't always initialize the capture device properly. Sometimes after reboot, going into Live TV gives just a black screen. I've found that waching some TV through the WinTV2000 application and then going back to GB-PVR seems to fix the problem.

3. My attempts to install FFDShow have failed. I hear its a great post processor. Again, possibly user error here. With FFDShow installed I get a black screen. Uninstall FFDShow and all works well.

I have a few suggestions as well, but I dropped those over in the Wishlist forum here

I'm very impressed with GB-PVR and incidentally, that you're able to manage so many users, and their problems and suggestions! My few small projects with their limited user bases is overwhelming, and I'm not quite sure how you manage! Regardless, thanks!

Here's a few that come to mind since I've started using GB-PVR exclsively:

1. OSD to show the numbers your pressing when changing channels.

2. A message telling you that recording is about to happen, or more importantly, recording is in progress. Right now, the video just freezes when a recording starts. Also it would be nice if it went back to live TV after the recording is complete rather than leaving the last frozen frame from before recording.

3. Yeah yeah, I know you've heard it- the ability to watch what'd being recorded. Thats what SBE is for after all.

4. TV-friendly fonts. Yeah this is more for skinners I guess. I'm not in the least bit creative enough to go into the skins department. But some info about tv-friendly fonts are here:
http://www.typographer.org/ On my TV, the fonts in GB-PVR tend to have issues. Yellow bleeding mainly around the edges makes it really hard to read.

5. I have my GB-PVR set to record all episodes of 'Family Guy' on Cartoon Network, but they play the same episode twice each night. I think dupe-checking would be really cool. If an episode is already recorded, no need to record it again.

I am setting up a new system, and are wondering if anyone has tried attaching a MediaMVP unit to the Server PC via a wireless link at a theoretical 54mg speed. Nothing beats copper, but wondered what speed is the minimum ethernet speed for effective MVP operation when playing DVDs or LiveTV.
