  Items of interest . . .
Posted by: krutaw - 2004-06-05, 11:35 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

Sub,

Don't take this the wrong way, as I'm very appreciative of your hard work, however, I wanted to give my initial reactions to actually using GBPvr for a day in my now PVR-Junkie House...

Features that need attention:

- Speed of changing channels - Too slow compared to other PVR software
- EPG Friendliness (color / font / etc)
- Favorites management (non-existant)
- Configuration needs to be able to be performed within the client
- Need easy implementation of a computer client (not just MVP)

Now, for the feedback on items you've already included:

- Execellent intergration with the Hauppauge remote
- TopNotch video through the PVR-350 (and easy configuration!Wink
- We really like the menu layout, and skinability right out of the box

We will be watching the version updates and forums with bated breath. [Image: biggrin.gif]

  EPG Font Size

I think that being able to modify the number of rows / font / font size of the EPG would be wonderful.

ActiSys-200L - high CPU usage and no luck
Posted by: blackt1ger - 2004-06-05, 09:17 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I'm using the v0.17i

I've been using SnapStream's Beyond TV, the Hauppauge MVP and the ActiSys-200L remote. The ActiSys-200L remote changes my cable box just fine from Snapstream. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get the same results with Live TV.

When setting up my source, I assume to use "Fixed Channel, external tuner" with the channel set to "3", as it is for Beyond TV (and most other things on this side of the puddle).

Channel changer is set to IR200L. My problem seems to be the COM port. Device Manager shows the IR Device as ActiSys and set to COM2. But the "training" portion hangs. Any attempt to "tune" via the GB PVR application also hangs the recording service.

Also, what is the "Remote Control Type" in the Plugins Tab?

Also, the installation didn't go smooth. For some reason the recording service didn't install in the SCM. I ran installutil to put it there. I also did a "Repair" install, after I've starting having problems. I would've done a complete re-install, however, the EPG took over an hour to load and I didn't want to lose it. [Image: smile.gif]

However, THANKS, it's turning into a great program.

Idea for buttons in main menu...
Posted by: MaBo - 2004-06-04, 07:42 AM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

Hi,
I thought of an idea to cope with the increasing number of buttons on the main menu since there are ever more VERY cool plugins and features, it doesn't fit on the main menu anymore. And sub doesn't like putting them in two or more columns.

But, (inspired by a mac), if all buttons are displayed smaller then is done now, except for the three in the middle:

small
small
Little bigger
BIG
Little bigger
small
small

And instead of scrolling the highligthed menu-item, scroll the menu. Pressing OK selects the BIG one.

This would work even better if it is made cyclic: if one item falls off at the bottom it reappears at the top of the menu and vice versa.

I know there can be a big discussion on whether <up> in this idea means scroll the menu one position up, or select the menu-item next above in the menu. I would say the latter one. But whatever is chosen, it may require two or three learning key presses, then you'll know forever...

It's just an idea.
Greetz,
MaBo

  Interference between gbpvrv017 and vtplus
Posted by: MaBo - 2004-06-04, 07:29 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hi Sub,

First of all, v17 looks much better. In particular the colors for the EPG are nice. And now with the jukeobx it is a very versatile program.

However, Yesterday I realised that the EPG is not up to date. As you may remember I use vtplus and a home-made script to extract the epg information from teletext. But, since v017 of gbpvr there is an interference between vtplus and the gbpvrrecordingservice.

When I start vtplus when the recordingservice is running, the process vtplus32 is created (see taskmanager), but no window appears. When I stop the process gbpvrrecordingservice, vtplus runs normally; my script is run and I get an updated EPG. Running gbpvr itself appears to have no influence.

Up and with v016 I've never had this problem! Any clue to what can be wrong?

BTW I like the recordingservice icon. Although I think it should be red when recording, green when idle.

Greetz,
MaBo

  Channel changing on UK Digibox
Posted by: jeffcora - 2004-06-03, 04:31 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

Can anyone out there give me some advice on using GBPVR in the UK. I've just got a PVR350, and I'm downloading the EPG using GrabEPG. What I'm looking for is a way for GBPVR to automatically change the Sky channel on my standard UK Sky Digibox. So when a recording comes up on a Sky channel, GBPVR will change the sky box to the correct Sky channel, then start recording off the co-ax connection. This way I can select any program to record from the TV Listing, and GBPVR will record it, without having to remember to make sure that the sky box is set to the correct channel manually. This would mean that when selecting a channel to watch from the TV Guide, or when a recording is going to start, the correct channel on the PVR tuner must be selected (68 in my case) AND something then changes the Sky Digibox to say 107 for Sky One Mix.

I could use Sky's built in reminder/channel changer so GBPVR just records "Sky" on channel 68, and the Digibox ensures that the correct channel is changed, but that's two places to set up a recording and it's not very integrated. (I actually have a co-ax and composite connection into my PC so would really like to record SKY from the composite, and terrestrial TV from the co-ax).

I've read the info out there but still don't get it. I assume I need a IR Blaster to send IR signals out to the Digibox, any advise on which one (the cheaper the better, some look like their about £60-£70, seems a bit high), which will work with GBPVR. What is the ".exe" option about? Is that a viable alternative?

Thanks for any advice, Rob

Posted by: dottore - 2004-06-03, 08:20 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

seems to be a windows-problem: when i watch a recording and afterwards want to delete it, the recording disappears from the menu, but not from my hd.

when i then try to delete it manualy it says, i cannot delete the file, because it is used by another program. even if i close gbpvr and stop the service i get this message.

  Problems with live tv
Posted by: blueman - 2004-06-02, 05:55 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I'm having some trouble with Live TV today. For some reason when I switch over to live tv it will not play tv programs. It will only play the buffers from the previous time I used the live tv function. To make things clearer, it is only playing the old Livetv-1-0, Livetv-1-1, and Livetv-1-2 files, instead of the current programs on tv. Up till today it seemed to work fine. I've tried rebooting as well as canceling the program out and restarting. I'm using a Hauppauge 350 in case that info is needed. Thanks.

  [X-Card] - volume output defaults
Posted by: chuckyt - 2004-06-02, 10:15 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

It seems that whenever GBPVR boots, the volume of output on the X-Card is set high by default. (my output is always distorted on startup until I reduce it)

Should it remember the last used volume setting ?

Chuck
