Slow fast forwarding during recorded TV playback
Posted by: AMD - 2016-09-17, 01:49 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

Hi,

I have configured and started using NextPVR in replacement of Windows Media Center.

I have everything working and I am quite satisfied with the software and the quality of the recordings.

Only problem I encounter is when I want to skip ads or advance in a recorded TV show.
We have a WMC remote, so pressing the forward button advances (30 sec or 60 sec I don't remember). The thing is this is really slow. It may take 10-15 seconds of jittery video before it finally starts normal playback, or sometimes it may need to Play or Forward button pressed again to continue playing.

In WMC this used to be instantaneous.

Is there any setting or feature I could try to improve this?

I might try comskip eventually, which could resolve some of this, but I'd still want to ability to move forward easily.

Thanks!

NZ (Freeview Terrestrial) - no show details
Posted by: time_lord - 2016-09-17, 05:10 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi, a month or two ago I realised my channels were a bit out of sync and I did not have Duke and a couple of the more recent channels.
I did a re-tune and got all the current freeview channels, but it seemed to create a bit of mayhem... after a few days most of my EPG showed 'no show details'. It seemed to be much more going wrong than just the few channels that have changed.

I am using 'EPGCollector', have upgraded it to the latest and it appears to be pulling down the 8(?) days worth of data each time it runs, and for all the current channels. But in Next PVR I can sometimes scroll forward only 24 hours and the remainder of the EPG says 'no show details' (for ALL channels). Other times there is several days of EPG content.
Sometimes I get home from work and the entire EPG says 'no show details'. The next day it'll be ok again, with a full EPG. (EPGCollector is set to run nightly, but that never seems to have created a crippled XML file when I observe 'no show details' in Next PVR; the XML file is always the 8 days worth.)
The recording service is still recording ok for all redefined recordings, even when the EPG says 'no show details', and the red band appears at the top of the EPG spanning a time frame when something is recording, so that is good.
Latest version of Next PVR is installed.

Any ideas about what might be going on?

  Elgato eyetv freesat channels
Posted by: Randy_69 - 2016-09-16, 07:02 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (15)

Hi all
Total newbie so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.
For years I have used my eyetv sat free module with the eyetv software. Having just moved to kodi, I wanted something to integrate the two. Nextpvr is fantastic! Managed to follow all the guidance. It finds my device and just works, so pleased!
The only issue I have is the lack of channels it obtains on scan. The eyetv software finds 500 free to air channels on whatever device I use (in the UK), but nextpvr is only finding 200. It is scanning the right frequencies but not picking them up. Some kind soul had posted an xml file with a few which I've been able to add (including channel 4 and 5 HD) but some that the family would want to use are still missing. Admittedly most are total junk :-) For example, there are 6 kids channels (tiny pop etc) at 11307 V 27500 2/3 (Astra 28 satellite). This frequency is scanned but no channels are found. I've repeated the scan four times now but can't find the droids I'm looking for!
Any ideas? I'm confident the device should get these channels fine as I've had them for years through the manufacturer software. Or does anyone have an xml file for dvb-s uk free to air/freesat.

Thank you!

  Conflict Alternative Airing
Posted by: GaryJ73167 - 2016-09-16, 03:44 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hi All,

Quick question;

I have NextPVR set to record quite a few shows in the prime time slot. So, sometimes, i try to schedule a new show to record, but, being my schedules are booked, it seeks the next available airing (usually 1:00am or 2:00am). I sometimes have a hard time explaining what I am trying to say...haha..I hope this sentence made sense.

The above feature is a feature that I LOVE !!!! Smile

Something I just noticed though, some of these alternate airings are showing "Conflict Alternative Airing". Funny thing is, I dont have anything else set to record at that time, and, if I look in the conflicts section, there is nothing listed.

Tonight is the first night that it is going to try to record one of these conflicts, so, I don't know (despite the conflict message) if it will record or not. By the morning, I will know.

Is this some type of bug in the software? If it is, I am certainly not complaining. just wanting to know if I did something wrong.

Possible inefficient use of tuners when channel surfing in Kodi
Posted by: mrdally204 - 2016-09-16, 03:43 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (1)

I discovered a pretty cool feature I never knew existed when watching the same channel on multiple Kodi clients they took advantage of the same tuner. COOL! So I started playing a little bit and think I found a small inefficiency. I captured the device status when recreating it and will try and explain.

I have 2 clients at the beginning of the capture watching the same channel 27.1. I bring in a 3rd client on 27.1 and bam it joins with the other 2 taking advantage of that one tuner, Tuner A.
I change the channel on the 3rd client to 19.1, it switched tuners as I expected it to, Tuner B.
I switched back to 27.1 on my 3rd client, but I did not join back to the group of 2 this time instead it switched the channel to 27.1 on Tuner B.
At the end of the video I stop playback, start playback again on chan 27.1 and we are once again a group of 3 on Tuner A.

Is this expected behavior or an oversight when changing channels? The tuners used in this video are HDHomerun Extends if that matters.

EPG Update - NextPVR has stopped working
Posted by: raymondjpg - 2016-09-15, 10:16 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

I am new to NextPVR and this question may have been addressed before, but I could not find an answer on searching the forum.

After initial setup of DVB-T devices and scan, I run EPG Update and it appears to run through all frequencies successfully but ends with an error message something like "NextPVR has stopped working please close". I close as requested, but NextPVR stays in the system tray, can be opened again, and the EPG appears to be fully populated for all services.

This may not be a significant problem but I would prefer to see the program run its EPG update routine without errors. Is there some solution?

I have set up and completely uninstalled NextPVR two or three times, but the error persists.

  Trick play not very responsive
Posted by: sakols - 2016-09-15, 06:55 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hi,
Im moving from WMC to NextPVR. Thank you for developing a much needed app for OTA users like me!
Im in the US using ATSC
Im using Windows 10
Ive recorded my first movie, and found it difficult to trick play or scrub over commercials with the "play head". The play head doesnt seem very responsive to being dragged by the mouse, and only jumps after a delay somewhat unpredictably. Is this the nature of NextPVR? should I be looking at the codecs? Im using the 3 letter one that starts with "L"
thanks,

dan

Question: Differences between Kodi client and NPVR native client?
Posted by: 2leftfeet - 2016-09-15, 02:55 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi,

I recently have been experimenting with Kodi and have enabled the Kodi NPVR client and have tried using the LiveTV function with Kodi. What I have found is that several persistent LiveTV issues that I experience with the native NPVR client are not issues at all with the Kodi NPVR client (using the same exact hardware & OS).

Two particular issues are (1) channel channel change freezes and (2) pause/resume/skip jitter instability.

I believe that sub is the author of both clients, yet one works very well relating to the above issues and the other not so much. (By the way, I want to echo the sentiment of GaryJ73167, that "I love nextpvr" and use it every day!)

My question is: Would/could anyone shed some light relating to the differences between the two different clients - that might possibly be causing the variance in behavior between the two clients while running on the same hardware/OS? Could it be the decoders? Timing? HDHomerun Prime tuner control?

Thanks.

No show details in TV guide
Posted by: LynnO - 2016-09-15, 07:30 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (14)

I just installed Next PVR. All my channels show up in the tv guide, but there are no show details. Also, when I go to live tv, I get a message that says "Live TV buffer directory does not exist: C:\Temp"
