You spam filter seems to be rejecting my email. My email reply was:

Check that you can record file correctly in WinTV first, before starting to use GB-PVR. This will give you a good indication that you card is functioning correctly.  If you have problems getting WinTV working, post a question on http://www.shspvr.com/forum, and there are plenty of people there that can help out.

To me, it looks like your PVR card isn't working correctly. From the logs it looks like your Live TV files (in C:\TV Opname) are zero bytes long. This typically can happen if you PVR card is sharing an IRQ with another device, and sometimes means that things just dont work. In the Windows Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Device Manager, select the "view -> resources by type" menu option and check whether the IRQ is being shared with anything else. I suspect it is, and this is causing your problem.

Like I said, try and get WinTV working first, then try GB-PVR.

Remember when you're using the PVR350 hardware decoder, the video only comes out of the TV Out connector on the back of the PVR350.

If you want to see it on your desktop, you should set the 'hardware decoder' option to 'none - use software decoding'.[/QUOTE]

Does this mean at this setting, it is not using the hardware decoding functions of the 350 or is this just for setting purposes only? In my case, it appears to have no effect on my system resources even though it is set to software decoding.

If you set the 'Hardware Decoder' option to 'Hauppauge PVR350', then the video is decoded by the PVR350's hardware decoder and sent to the TV out. This will use very little system CPU.

If you set the 'Hardware Decoder' option to 'None - use software decoder', then the video is decoded entirely by system's CPU (software decoding) and the video is sent the PC monitor.

Without getting out your soldering iron, its not possible for the PVR350 to decoder the MPEG video and send it to you PC monitor

Sorry to be so ignorant about the 'hardware' question but, what's the use of having a hardware decoder if it doesn't decode to your monitor? I'm pleased with what I have and do have lot's of power but everyone said to be sure to get a hardware decoder. Do all the other pvr software programs do this with the 350 card?
Thanks for your patience. Your program is extremely system friendly but my lack of capture card knowledge has me confused.

Yes, all the other PVR is the same in this respect. The hardware decoder on the PVR350 can only be used to output to its own special TV out. This is how the card was designed to be used.

Its still plenty of use, but may not be exactly what you're looking for. GB-PVR can output all its menus and video to the PVR350, and can be run entirely in the background allowing you to use your PC for other tasks at the same time as GB-PVR is visible on the PVR350 tv out. Also the picture on the PVR350 tv out is much better than you'll ever get using a software decoder.

If you're looking for a more general video solution that uses your regular monitor (and shows your desktop and other applications), then you'll have to just disable the PVR350 hardware decoder and use software decoding instead.
