not trying to change the topic but I'm having a stuttering problem as well.
Live TV is stuttering and is unwatchable (no sound either) when using the pvrx2.exe interface. Using gbpvr interface it works just fine and is totally watchable. Whats weird though is recording a show in pvrx2.exe and watching it in pvrx2 works just fine.

the video decorder= Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
video renderer=VMR9 Custom (i tried the normal Vrm9 as well)

the directory for live tv buffer is ....\mydocuments\tv

rest of my pc

Asus A8N Premium
AMD 4400+ CPU
7900 GTX
2 gigs ram
ATI Threatre 550 pro

all drivers are up to date as i just reformatted about 2 weeks ago

Your problem is probably something different. Your machine should have no problems. Have you tried the quartz.dll patch? Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in the Cyberlink decoder, or even other video decoders? Pimary or secondary monitor?

I get minor stuttering as well in VMR9 that I don't get in Overlay. It is watchable but annoyinng at times. Very easy to see when you watch channels with scrolling text like CNN.

I guess my system specs are at the threshold, doesn't leave much cpu resources for other processes like mvp, etc.

Is this quartz.dll still an issue or has Microsoft issued a patch. I replaced quartz.dll before on my test machine and completely hosed the operating system. So be careful. Better make system restore points. I found a program called replacer that will replace all the necessary instances of the file without the need to go into safe mode.

Observer_11,

I have the exact same motherboard as your HTPC, with the same amount of memory (until last week - now 1.5 Gb), with only an AMD 2500+ and I get good playback of even HD material. However, I do have a few differences.

I have an ATI 1600 Pro - I had the 6200 like you but couldn't get flawless HD with it, so I upgraded. I'm using the NVidia Pure Video drivers.

I applied the quartz.dll fix to go back to the version from DirectX 9.0b, instead of the c version which causes stuttering for so many.

Also, running MVPs (I have 3) I noticed a constant glitch every minute when the clock on the MVP updated. I don't think this would be noticable with only 1 MVP, but if you see a stutter every minute you might try commenting out the lines in skin.xml for the clock. If that works, you can make an MVP only copy of the skin.

Also, if there's something on your system that's taking up too much CPU periodically to cause the glitch in playback, you can bump the priority of the client in the config.xml file. This can help a great deal.

Good luck!

Yes, it is still an issue. Microsoft has issued a patch, but its not applied automatically so most people dont have it.

Does the M$ patch really address the issue, or is it still advisable to go back to the 9.0b file? I applied the M$ patch, but I found I still needed to go back to the 9.0b file anyway. Anyone else noticed this?

Anybody have a link to the patch for quartz.dll? I want to see if it addresses more things than stuttering, more importantly, security issues than may be present in the older version 9.0b
