It looks worse than my SD source recordings.
As Sub said though, is this digital cable that you are recording from, or using the analog side?

It's it analog, what is the bitrate?

I believe its digital.
Analog would be that basic cable right?
We have a cable box and stuff, but its not plugged into my computer. It's in the the other room.
I get like 99 channels on the computer.
I with Cox cable, in the Phoenix area.
(if that helps any)

It is Digital Cable.. according to Titan TV.com

Sorry, don't know anything about US cable and how analog v digital works.
To me, the recording looks to be missing some colour space info.
What did the recordings look like when played on a DVD player?

I'm not sure how to tweak any settings on the ATI card sorry.

It looks basically the same on a DVD player.
..gah..

I try to use the catalyst drivers and it doesn't detect my card.. and now it doesn't get a good quality image..

same as what ??same good?? same bad ??
the catalyst drivers are only going to help with playback not the way its saved
if its digital the only thing that will help is the mux but that wont change the way the picture looks
maybe the broadcast itself is shyt or its not digital and your getting noise it does look a bit grainy
dont have cable so dont know what your picture should look like

Cable tends to be the worst signal anyway, but that aside... is that really USA channel in HD? I didn't think USA HD was available yet. If you haven't made sure already, download MediaInfo and open the video file in that to see what the recorded resolution is.

I was going to say I'm not overly surprised at the picture quality since some cable channels can look downright bad, but you said it looks great from the cable box.

I'm raising an eyebrow at the tuner card. From a quick internet search, that card looks to have an OTA HD tuner and a non-HD cable tuner. Even so, that's some bad-looking standard definition TV. If the card has an analog tuner on the cable side, then maybe the analog recording options are set to low in GBPVR.

If the show looks good straight off the cable box, and the show looks bad burned from your recording and watched on a standalone DVD player, the tuner card is pretty much the only culprit left.
