Really cheap HD tuner that works with NPVR
Posted by: soccerdad - 2011-10-27, 12:08 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

I just picked up a second Hauppauge HVR-1800 card off of ebay. It was only $23 including shipping! And it is new and it does work. It is a special version of the card and only has the tuners, the analog one and the digital one. No FM, IR, etc. But it does work just fine, and it arrived only 3 days after I ordered it.

They have a bunch of them. They are full height cards and are PCIe, but if you want an HD tuner on the cheap, this one is pretty good.

I have it working along with my DCR-2650 to have 3 HD tuners.

Recordings OK, but marked as 'failed'
Posted by: lostboy - 2011-10-26, 08:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

NPVR is marking most of my recordings as 'failed' - status = 3 in the database (table SCHEDULED_RECORDINGS), with reason as 'no errors, but no data delivered....'. However, the recording .ts file is present and plays OK. If I manually change the status to 2, then I can play the recording from NPVR in the normal way.

I've looked at the NRecord log, but cannot see any problems (copy attached covers a number of recordings, all of which were marked as failed).

I'm running NPVR 2.2.6 with cumulative patches R2, plus patch 41 with the CollectEIT flag set to false (I was seeing crashes which this patch seems to have fixed).

My install is client - server with the server running on WHS2003 and PCH and PC clients. The main recording device is a TBS 6984 Quad DVBS2 card.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Chris

Recording Playback times go to 0:00 and can't skip forward/back
Posted by: cncb - 2011-10-26, 05:13 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I have had a few recordings that while in the middle of playback the times in the timebar suddenly go to 0:00 and I can't skip forward or back anymore (although it continues to play the file ok). Strangely, this only happens on 2 of my client PCs while it doesn't happen on my server or 1 of my client PCs. I have attached the logs from the "good" client and "bad" client. Notice in the bad one, after a few skips it reports the current position as a very small number. I also have included the server log but for some reason there is no evidence of the "good" client playing back the file in the log even though all the clients are set up the same to access the server??

  xbox360 client?
Posted by: OTAjunkie - 2011-10-26, 03:47 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Can an XBOX360 be used as a client(and with live TV)?
A buddy of mine is considering switching over from WMC.
I personally haven't touched my xbox or ps2 since they became superceded so I'm not very familiar with thier capabilities.
If so how would he do this?

Minor (but low WAF) pc client gripe
Posted by: Elmo Putney - 2011-10-26, 02:53 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

I have a Zbox AD02 running as a client in the kitchen, but I got a WAF downgrade e-mail this morning because after a resume from standby she "claims" she often sees an error on the screen saying "server database not found". Of course I didn't believe her so this morning she sent me photo evidence.

After clicking ok to dismiss the error npvr imediatley fires up and all is fine, but I cant understand if i'm getting the error because it did not go to sleep properly or because it woke up and kicked of npvr before the network was initialised of similar.

I have setup event ghost run a batch file when the power button is pressed that kills all NPVR related processes then put it into S3, then it runs them again after resume. That seems to work if I hit the power button but if I leave the machine idle I dont see a way to run batch file before it sleeps due to the sleep timer.

anyone got any pointers?

Hauppauge PVR 150 Audio Record Bitrate in NextPVR
Posted by: peter t - 2011-10-26, 04:12 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I use two Nova T 500's for DVB and a PVR 150 for a Satellite Set Top Box.
With PVRX2 I could set the video and audio bitrate for the PVR150, with Next PVR I can set the video bitrate via the config.xml but have been unable to work out how to set the audio bitrate.
Is there a way to set the audio bitrate to 224kbps it currently is 384kbps.

NextPVR Recording service creates zero length file, high CPU utilization
Posted by: zb21 - 2011-10-25, 05:25 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (19)

Hello,

I have an Acer dual core Atom nettop computer, 2GB RAM, Windows XP SP3, US version with Plextor ConvertX M402U analog capture device. This computer works with GBPVR software extremely reliably for about two years. It never missed the recording, I am extremely pleased with it, just analog TV is becoming outated.

About two months ago I purchased HDHOMERUN, European version, as the unit is being used in Europe. Installed NextPVR, which did not work initially as NextPVR was unable to see "DCR-2650 / HDHR Prime" tuners - as they show up now, and are neccessary to record european broadcasting. After installing HDHOMERUN and PextPVR updates (not sure which one helped) I am generally able to record. My current version of NextPVR is 2.2.6.

The problem is however, that after restarting the computer NextPVR is able to record one to two scheduled programs and then - when the next recording starts - the recording service creates a new file with zero length and the CPU utilization becomes very high, no actual recording takes place. The only cure is to restart Recording Service from the tray icon and - in this case - a new file is created, this time the broadcast is recorded properly. But when the next recording starts - the situation is the same again, zero length file and high CPU utilization. After a full computer restart - about one to two shows are recorded and the situation repeats itself again.

I normally do not have physical access to that computer, but when I had I remember that the tuners were not released after recording (that is the lights on the HDHOMERUN were on after recording). The only way to clear them was to start HDHOMERUN QuickTV for a second and quit, which was releasing the tuner used by QuickTV. I installed the recent patches, which were supposed to solve the problem, but no luck (I do not know if the lights stay on now).

Also, I was looking for NextPVR log files, which - think - are supposed to be in c:\Program Files\NPVR\logs directory, but the only subdirectories found in c:\Program Files\NPVR\ are "Other" and "SoftPVR".

Sorry for my long post, but I tried to be as precise as I can.
Thank you for any help you could provide,

ZB21

PS: GBPVR and Plextor converter is still installed and still works very well. For now I am attempting to record in parallel on GBPVR/Plextor and NextPVR/HDHOMERUN. GBPRV works wonderfully, NextPVR works after I restart the recording service each time. Then the record simultaneously, no skips, no problems, just the problem with initial start of NextPVR recording each time.....

Unable to launch NPVR or the Recording Service
Posted by: Hal2010 - 2011-10-25, 02:55 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

This may be coincidental but I recently installed the 'Web Radio' and 'Weather' plugins. There was a warning from the Program Compatibility Assistant that 'This program might no have installed correctly'. With both installations I chose the 'Reinstall using recommended settings' option rather than 'This program installed correctly'. The plugins seemed to run OK but I started getting jerky video with TV3(HD channel) so decided to unistall both plugins using the uninstall.exe files provided.

Later I found that I was unable to launch NextPVR or the Recording Service.

The following two paragraphs are a summary of what I have tried.

A check showed that the Recording Service was not running. An attempt to start it using the Start/Stop NPVR Service option gets the following error

'Unable to start service: System.InvalidOperationException:Cannot start service NPVR Recording service on computer'.'. ---

System .Com,ponentModel.Win32Exception:An instance of the service is already running

--- End of inner exception stack trace ---

at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.Start(String[[] args)

at NCtrl.ProgramMain(String[] args)

I have reinstalled the patches "NPVR 2.2.6 Patches R2" and restarted Vista. Again the Recording Service was not running. An attempt to start the Recording Service using Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services results in the error
'Windows could not start the NPVR Recording Service service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.'

I don't understand what is going-on and short of a reinstall of NPVR I am out of ideas?
