I may be trying something "wrong." I currently have an ATI ALL-inWonder HD tuner/video card that works fine and plays well with NPVR, for OTA TV. It is PCI-E, and replaced a cheap ATI video card. I use the HDMI out often to "pipe" output to my real TV, a Sony 40" flatscreen. Works nicely. NPVR works great after my learning curve, especially getting TV listings through zap2it, which still works. Win XP, 4600Gig dual-core AMD CPU and "4 Gig" RAM. (Note: the Catalyst Media Center program that came with the card sucks - loses channels and settings - pain in the ass that I left behind for better programs, like GBPVR and NPVR.)
I was hoping to hook up a second monitor, to expand monitor space, not for TV use. My MSI M/B only has one PCI-E slot, so I got a relatively cheap GeForce 8400GS card (NVIDIA, not ATI) with both DVI and VGA out, which means I could use my old, smaller VGA flatscreen for more monitor space.
Have I "violated the rules" so far? Different cards and connections to M/B? My Internet searches suggest maybe.
Anyway, I tried it once and it kind of worked but I had some problems. I reverted to a backup and for now it's like I never tried it.
Here's what I recall. Adding the 2nd card actually seemed to go OK. Hardware in fine. And I think I got the software drivers stuff in OK as well. I was then able to extend the desktop to the second monitor, and they "identified" as 1 and 2 on screen when I queried. I thought I was in fat city!
But when I rebooted I repeatedly got a Windows New Hardware window....darn it. Looking in Control Panel. I had an unknown device. Not sure quite which. Then, I realized that in NPVR, I could no longer access Live TV - something like can't find tuner filter. Damn. But the Device was still listed correctly in NPVR's settings.
I unseated the new card, and a reboot or two resulted in a corrupt Windows config file. Cascading failures as seems to occur when panicking over a Windows problem. So I bailed completely. Used Acronis to revert to a backup of a day or two earlier. Whew - back to normal.
But I'd still like to add the second monitor and video card if I can. I plugged the new, 2nd video card in once....New Hardware Window...cancelled ,but I did NOT put in the GeForce driver CD. I just tried NPVR Live TV. It said something like can't find the tuner device...not the filter reference from earlier, I think. But Settings-Devices still showed the ATI tuner. So I unseated the second card again. After I think 2 reboots, I was back to normal.
I'll try again in a day or two, AFTER I do another full system backup, just in case.
So after this long description, sorry, am I tilting at windmills? Does Win XP, or NPVR, get "confused" when adding the second video drivers, or what? NPVR Settings-Device still showed the "ATI BDA Digital Tuner" info that it usually shows. Some web searching suggests that one should remove video drivers before adding a new card and drivers. Some suggest that only similar cards can be used, perhaps so they share the same drivers?
I am not sure what I am missing here. I am using XMLTV to create my epg for an analog tuner (1100). I am using the same file and process that I used with GBPVR for years.
Windows scheduler updates the XML file each night. All ok.
Manual npvr updates the EPG fine. All is correct.
BUT it does not do this automatically... where is the setting and what am I doing wrong because it is fine when forced but not if it is left alone.
I looked in the wiki for info on the "misc2" settings but there wasnt anything there. The numbers I have set are 180 and 2. I am not sure what the 180 means but I guess the 2 = 2am for an auto update of the EPG. But after 4 days nothing has happened.

Awesome, however there are issues with the playback of recordings.

So - in Videos and Music, when the focus changes away from the list and onto the menu, the list noticeably fades until it has focus again.
I'd like to reproduce this, but have not been able to figure out what buttons to push to make it happen.
I did try fussing with the alpha property, but it did not have any effect at all (that I saw, anyway). The skin has an alphaFade attribute, which may or may not be relevant, but if it is, I can't find how to wire it up.
Has anybody made this happen and can point me in the right direction? I'm implementing IScreenPlugin.
Windows XP. I used to be able to watch a DVD no problem. Lately, it gives me issues. Stuttering picture, sound out of sync. I'm figuring the codecs are messed up.
How can I tell what codecs my PC is using for a DVD? I'm just trying to use the basic DVD option in NPVR.
I was talking to someone today, just about netflix movie parties. Me being in Canada and having limited content, and her being in the United States and having a wide variety of movies... Just wondering since the content is limited in Canada, would I be able to watch a movie from her list, if the party was made or created by her? Joined her party... Even tho the movie may not be an option on my movie list.
example: She starts up a movie party viewing The Green Mile

Yet another simple question, does nPvr log its last graph? (i.e. a .grf file for graphstudio etc)
I think it was a config option in GBPVR but I not sure about nPvr, and I can't find anything in the wiki except for the old 'keep digital graphs constructed' option which was unrelated I believe.
I have 4 computer all with Win7 Pro 64-bit, running the latest version of NPVR 2.0.3. with the latest patches installed. And, I still occasionally randomly encounter a problem where NPVR stops recording what it is recording, and the service needs to be stopped and started in order for it to respond. However, once the service is restarted, it begins recording again, for a few seconds to sometimes up to 2 or 3 minutes, and then stops again. This usually continues for several hours, where each time I restart NPVR, the same problem occurs. I'll wait an hour and try again. This last occurred last Thursday evening at about 8:00 PM, and no matter how often I restarted NPVR, it did not become stable until after 1:00 PM the following day. This is the longest that this problem has lasted. Usually it will last for a couple of hours, at most. It used to only occur on one computer, this last time it occurred on all 4 computers, simultaneously. I checked the short recording and it looks fine. No issues with quality, video or audio. I have narrowed this down to QAM channels only. THis does not seem to occur with OTA HD, nor does this problem seem to affect Windows Media Center, which I have on a 5th computer, using the same cable feed. I am using an amplifier to split the signal--this does not appear to be the problem. I can also watch these same QAM channels on 2 different TVs without any issues. There is nothing in the log files that indicate a problem. No errors appear in the log file. It doesn't even show that the program being recorded has stopped.
One other note. On 2 of the computers, I am recording both HD (OTA) and SD (QAM) simultaneously, and all recordings stop when this error occurs. On the other 2 computers, I am only recording QAM channels.
How can I help diagnose this problem? :confused:

btw, when this error is not occurring, NPVR is awesome! Reliable, simple (not bloated), fast, etc.
This may seem like a stupid question, but how do you delete capture devices from the list. I'm still showing old devices, they're marked as not present but I cant work out how to delete them totally.
If steeb in a mad moment decided to try some coding that introduced changes to the config.xml what would be the best approach to apply any changes made?
Currently I tend to use the stop/start service controls if I've been tweaking. Can this be done silently? Is there a better way?
