  DM04 (LME) DVB-S USB BDA Tuner Support
Posted by: overflow - 2011-03-14, 11:38 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi all, I've been reading the forums for some time but this is my first post, so be gentle Wink

I've been using GB-PVR 1.4.7 for a little while now and tried to make the switch to NPVR 2.0.3 recently, but ran into a problem with support for my tuner.

I use a low cost dvb-s tuner purchased in New Zealand on TradeMe (another one from the same trader - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing....=360479138).
They can also be found on dealextreme.

Now there are 2 different types of tuners used in these boxes, either LG or Sharp ones (there may be 2 Sharp variants as well), it's pretty much potluck as to which one you get.
The internals put together by a company called Leaguer Microelectronics and they supply the factory drivers (http://www.leaguerme.com/English/ShowArt...ticleID=62)

The default bda.ini that gets installed with GB-PVR 1.4.7 already has an entry for the LG tuner (see here for a bit of history - http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post344971)

All I had to do was run FilterCheck (log attached) and add my own entry to bda.ini:

[LME DM04 SHARP7395]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-S
RECEIVER_ONLY_MODE=1
FILTER_RECEIVER=LME_PCTV_DVBS_SHARP0288
PIN_RECEIVER_IN=Antenna In Pin
PIN_RECEIVER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

And everything worked like a charm Smile

After installing NPVR 2.0.3 I could find no way to manually add digital BDA devices, I guess it has been written it to autodetect these.

Initially everything seems positive, my tuner gets listed in the 'Devices' window with both 'Present' and 'Enabled' set to 'Yes'.
I select the 'Device Setup' button and my tuner is shown as enabled with a '1' next to it.

However when I press 'Scan' to scan for channels nothing is ever found, it just sits there looking like it's scanning, but not doing it.
NPVR doesn't hang or anything, I can 'Cancel' and go back to the 'Devices' window without any problem.

Any ideas? :confused:

  Playback HD?
Posted by: mattyb - 2011-03-14, 10:35 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (11)

I've finally taken the plunge and bought a new 46" Plasma TV and now want to actually move into the year 2011 and think about recording and playing back HD content.

Question is, can my system handle it? (see signature)

Any suggestions for newer video card, RAM, CPU etc welcome. Thanks!

  Playing in-progress recording suddenly stops
Posted by: Reddwarf - 2011-03-14, 09:50 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I experienced something strange tonight, I was watching an in-progress recording (something I usually don't do) when it suddenly stopped. It plays far anything from 40-45 seconds to sevral minutes before it stops playing. In the log, I can see something at approx. 22:10 today when npvr says something about "change in database file detected" and then stops all graphs.

  NPVR + which Web Player App?
Posted by: b00sfuk - 2011-03-14, 09:24 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I'm looking for the best complementary product to NPVR to provide a web player interface. For example running Windows Media Center 7 etc. alongside NPVR to allow (remote control) access to UK services such as Sky Player and BBC iPlayer?

I'm thinking of running WMC, with appropriate plugins (already has native Sky Player support), but not configuring any tuners etc. (as all recording/playback handled by NPVR). I don't think there will be any comparable native mature plugins for NPVR in the near future and there is an appeal to watching web streaming programs using a remote control (and not having to use a mouse and browser/app).

Anybody have any experiences on thoughts on this? I try to keep my setups as simple as possible so I'd really like to know of any issues/caveats of having multiple PVR apps running concurrently. With a Harmony remote control driving an iMon receiver I'm quite happy with launching and managing multiple apps.

  4x3 Skins
Posted by: rkircher - 2011-03-14, 06:50 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (6)

Is there a 4x3 Skin available for SerachLite that works without causing an unhandled exception error when I use "Find All" in SearchLite? My understanding is that I need to use NPVR 2.0.3 skins, but the NPVR Setup and SearchLite installation provides 16:9 skins. If I use the default skin supplied with SearchLite, there is truncation of text. For example, on the upper left there is a Title for the search entry box that is "Search", but appears as "Searc" with truncation.

  How do you configure a Hauppauge USB-LIVE2 device.
Posted by: Granddad - 2011-03-14, 04:02 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (12)

I am trying to configure my Hauppauge USB-Live2 device. As it has not got a h/w encoder I have installed WinTV7, with which it works well, and put this entry in the AnalogDevices.xml, admittedly it was guess work!

<Device filter="Hauppauge USB-Live2">
<Name>Hauppauge USB-Live2</Name>
<Type>SOFT_ENCODE</Type>
</Device>

But it doesn't appear in the 'Devices'
I have attached a filtercheck.zip, which i'm afraid is is double-dutch to me.
What am I doing wrong?

  npvr 2.0.3 issues and observations
Posted by: time_lord - 2011-03-14, 11:31 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (51)

Hi, now that 2.0.3 is here I took the plunge a few days ago and updated from GBPVR. My system: XP SP3 on a quad core, dual-tuner HVR2200, NZ freeview using DVB-T with line of sight of kaukau.

Firstly let me say I am impressed with the setup - other than checking prerequisites and noting sentiments that npvr works well under Win7, I found setup a breeze. Sub, you've done a good job on tuner setup, much easier than gbpvr. And very timely tuning a new setup - was not aware that stratos had started broadcasting on DVB-T :-)

I have encountered a few issues which I'll list here and follow up with some usability observations...

1) When I start npvr on my 4:3 PC screen (which is a lot of the time) npvr always starts up in widescreen mode. It does not remember the last setting (although it does seem to remember the approximate size), even with 4:3 preselected in the settings. Reproducable.

2) The aspect ratio problems seem to cause drawing issues. Cycling thru them via F7 does not seem to fix; I think it can only be remedied if the window is resized when you first get to the TV guide (before viewing a channel)? See AR1.jpg; in AR2.jpg I thought I'd see a replay of '7 days' (but of course it was tsunami coverage), and when I tried to fix the aspect ratio some of the video resized but a lot of garbage would not go away.

3) I think I'd heard multiplexing was enabled in npvr so I started 'quick record' for 4 programs (cool - on my dual-tuner). When I tried starting a 5th I got a 'no tuner available' message, and after a second or 2 I tried escaping from the message... but I guess there is no focus handler in the message box and the escape exited the TV Guide instead. Reproducable.

3) After the test in (2) I started to cancel the recordings, but after cancelling the second, npvr hung. Wonder if it was caused by npvr freeing up one muxed channel per tuner or both on one tuner... not sure which order I tried to free them in... I could test again if this isn't a known issue.

4) After killing NextPVR and NRecord, restarted the recording service via NTray, then started nPVR again. after killing other 2 recordings (presumably resumed after service restart) NextPVR was using 16-25% CPU and I was only sitting on the TV Guide screen.

5) It seems the status of the tray service does not always show activity - more than once I've started a quick record and the tray status shows nothing. Also on sunday I started quick record of one program (program had already started) and then quickly started another, but after selecting the second when I returned to the quide, it no longer showed the first in red. Under recordings it shows both as failed, 'device failed to start' but I have no idea why that would be so in this case.

Observations:

6) IMHO the TV guide is harder to read... would be easier with a smaller font and making more use of the lower part of the screen (or instead of displaying 8 channels, 7 like gbpvr) - see guide-old.jpg, guide-new.jpg. Maybe my default font is defaulting to bigger than expected (although I have no special XP theme setup) - I've seen quite a few bits of truncated text - couple of examples in truncations.jpg.

7) In the TV guide the current time marker shaded all currently playing programs in grey in gbpvr - it was easier to see where programs start, finish and overlap. Also very handy if scrolling forward several hours, serves as a great visual marker in the guide when scrolling back.

So there is my little list. I really like the feel of npvr but on my rig it does not (yet) seem as robust as gbpvr. Anyone else encountered any/some of these issues?

Cheers

  NextPVR has stopped working
Posted by: kirschey - 2011-03-14, 06:43 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (20)

I finally did the big switch. Before the Big Dance this week I didn't want the crazy issues with gbpvr recordings so I changed over. One quick q, is there a way to search the guide?

Everything was going great until I imported my recordings and then I go the stopped working error. The thing is, it didn't stop working at all. I was able to set up a recording, record, playback, etc. No issues except for the error.

It looks like this:

  NMT reboot & incremental updates not working
Posted by: Jaggy - 2011-03-14, 06:42 AM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (5)

It seems there may be a new problem with the way the panel works under 2.0.3 as there have been a number of reports of the NMT rebooting like in these threads
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...gs-failing & I also had the same thing happen today with the exact same message in the log.

I am also having major problem with the screen not updating when using TV Recording, it is almost unusable now the way it is, it will either have four or five highlighted boxes all on screen at once or not highlight the selected box at all until I go to the buttons then the right box highlights.

  Recording length changing for previously recorded show
Posted by: BrettB - 2011-03-14, 02:39 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

I recorded and then watched The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business tonight. Note, the recording was completely finished before I began playing it. However, I think that comskip was still processing it when I started it on the PCH the first time.

When I first watched it, I was using the PCH and noticed that it showed the length of the recording as 01:13:45. It should have been a 1-hour show plus either 1 or 3 minutes of padding (depending upon whether the post-padding was honored).

When the playback got to the end of the program, mvpmcx2 hung displaying a frame of video. I'm guessing that the hang was caused by npvr reporting the length of the program as 01:13:45, but the file is actually only about 01:03:00, and when mvpmcx2 tried to go past the end of the file, it had problems.

I then tried playing it on the pc. On there, the length kept changing fluxuating between 01:15:00 and 01:07:00 or so. (I only played about 5 minutes, so I don't know if it would have stopped changing at some point or not.)

I've attached logs. The timing.info is from this recording. The putty.log is the info from the PCH for the time when it hung. The npvr.log is from playing it on the pc. Unfortunately, when the PCH hung, it was using an mvp server which wasn't logging, so I don't have the original log from it. But I did go back and begin playing it on the PCH and got an mvp.log which shows beginning playing the file.
