  ShareHelper utility
Posted by: mvallevand - 2009-08-08, 03:57 AM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (75)

Because of the regular problems some user have had configuring GB-PVR to connect to remote shares I have written a small Windows service ShareHelper which is designed load the shares in the Local System account. It is based on the idea of the utility UseShare which I found it a little confusing to install, hopefully this will be simpler by being more integrated with GB-PVR and NPVR.

The configuration is done in a file ShareHelper.xml in the GB-PVR Programs folder or the NPVR Data Folder (with config.xml). The connection can be made using an optional drive letter, and it accepts either hostname or IP notation depending on what you prefer. I have found if you use a drive letter that "letter" is available to other sessions as well, but they cannot be deleted. I think the XML is self-explanatory but if you have questions ask.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <appSettings> <add drive="z:" share="\\myNAS\Videos" username="username" password="myPwd"/> <add drive="y:" share="\\myNAS\Public" username="" password=""/> <add share="\\SMP8634-\share" username="A110\nmt" password="1234"/> <add share="\\192.168.10\share" username="nmt" password="1234"/> </appSettings> </configuration>

Do not use a letter to map the NMT, mvpmcx2 will automatically detect that a file is local and play it without streaming if the IP or hostname match.

1. Usage (as an Administrator)

1. Download and extract
a. Sharehelper1.exe file to your GB-PVR Program folder
b. Sharehelper2.exe file to your N-PVR Program folder
2. Edit ShareHelper.xml to match your requirements
3. Install the program by typing
ShareHelper1 /i or ShareHelper2 /i
4. Update config.xml with your settings for your shares
5. Start the services from services.msc or with net start ShareHelper, the service is set to automatically start when you start your PC.

Troubleshooting

- check the syntax of your xml.
- ShareHelper.log files are stored in the GBPVR or NPVR log folder
- This is my first C# program and my first Windows Service so provide as much information as you can.
- This may be installed in a future version of NMTInstall.
- If you don't use the Local System Account for the GB-PVR or NPVR Recording service, use the same account with UseShare. You might use this to logon to an NMT share.

Uninstall

- to uninstall, stop the service and run

ShareHelper1 /u or ShareHelper2 /u

Things I have tried so far 1. updated to the latest gbpvr software 1.3.11 2. dumped the epg and re loaded it 3. ran the tuning assistant 4. re registered filters 4. contacted schedule direct (thought it was a line up problem). But nothing seems to solve this problem any Ideas will be greatly appreciated

map F7 (aspect ratio) to hauppauge remote button?
Posted by: Skweek - 2009-08-07, 02:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi all,

is this do-able? I've added a few more aspect settings to GBPVR's config (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43012) which I use frequently and it would be a boon to be able to change them with the remote.

  Recording Directory Empty
Posted by: afriend1 - 2009-08-07, 02:32 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I've been using GBPVR to record TV at home for a number of years. So I'm familiar with the program.

However in a new application, I'm using the current build in a Vista 64 bit environment to record a live camera. As the administrator, I've configured (and get) the S-video feed with LiveTV, but the recording doesn't save in the recording directory. It does show up in the LiveTV buffer directory (until it's eventually deleted. -Also, I believe you can use a remote setup to save it, but I don't have one). Why won't it save in the recording directory?

I've search the forums but couldn't find anything.

Thanks!!

  New ATI 785g [HD4200 onboard]
Posted by: pBS - 2009-08-07, 10:54 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (62)

anyone seen the newest ati offerings, 785g chipset with HD4200 card builtin?
finally when they just got the 4xxx drivers working well, and gpu assisted transcode, they come out with the 4000 series onboard...hopefully they've learned something after the last go'round..Smile

on shelves...hadn't seen anything about them online really..
link for one on sale as example..
http://www.directron.com/gama785gmus2h.html

unfortunately, this looks to be just an upgrade of the 780g 3xxx style boards..not really like a 4350..Sad
"Fundamentally the architecture of the graphics core itself is pretty similar to the GPU found in the 780G's Radeon 3200 graphics. You've got the same 40 stream processors with 4 texture units and 4 ROPs as the 780G, the same ability to address up to 512MB of system RAM, and the same 500MHz core clock speed."
This is probably a disappointment for those of you who were hoping for a true next-generation successor based on ATI's highly successful RV7xx architecture. The Radeon HD 4350 for instance sports twice the stream processors -- 80 -- with eight texture units and 4 ROPs. With the 785G chipset relying on the same 55-nm manufacturing process as the 780G, ATI couldn't affordably fit the 4350's 242 million transistors into their transistor budget for 785G.

AMD confirmed that multi-channel LPCM audio over HDMI isn't supported by 785G; like 780G the 785G chipset is limited to 2 channels only.

  Zero-length recordings
Posted by: liteswap - 2009-08-07, 09:18 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

This problem has crept in under my radar - didn't notice after my recent complete re-install as it needed two simultaneous recordings before it manifested itself.

One tuner - the Compro Videomate S350 - is producing zero-length recordings, the other, the Hauppauge HVR4000, works fine.

Debug level log from GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log shows this:

Code:
2009-08-07 10:11:29.359 ERROR Failed to start BDA Graph 2009-08-07 10:11:29.359 VERBOSE ERROR_GEN_FAILURE
I've reinstalled the drivers a couple of times, all to no avail.

I know it worked before the re-install. I've also re-registered the filters and no filter errors show up. I did try re-installing GBPVR but it kept rolling back with an error - not sure where to find out why and it would be nice to fix that - but since the other tuner works fine, I assume this is not a general but a tuner-specific error. Bad assumption? What else should I try?
Full logs attached:

PS: After a bit more testing, I find the problem is definitely the Compro. I tried switching the order of the two tuners and recording SD and HD, but everything results in the same problem: zero-length recordings.
