Great job Sub, you've come a long way

I've been using MythTV for about 2 years now after being a Tivo junkie. Recently, the hard drive in my mythtv box died on me so I decided to see what else was out there. What the heck, I had to reinstall anyway. I'm quite the linux geek, but I own a copy of Windows XP so I was open to all options. I first installed Media Portal, but it had a fit with the way I setup my partitions and was limited in so many areas. I really found it frustrating. I tried Sage and BeyondTV but they were a joke. Then I remembered about gbpvr from a few years ago when I previously tried it, so I gave it a shot.

Man, am I ever glad I did. Even though I get rather frustrated with Windows, I have found gbpvr to be exceptionally easy to setup and configure. I love the way the plugins work and the overall feel of the program. I will be keeping this version of gbpvr on my box until the next one comes out. I hear that there will possibly be the ability to prioritize recordings Smile . That is just about the only 'complaint' I have and I use that word loosely.

Again, great work, you have done amazing things since I last checked and I'm very grateful for your efforts. It will probably be another month before I will be able to put down the keyboard and stop tweaking the system.

  Very Cheap GBPVR Machine (Canada)
Posted by: bdgbill - 2007-02-21, 02:16 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

I was poking around TigerDirect looking at raid cards trying to solve my disc spanning problem and found this off lease desktop. $204.00 after rebate plus $40.00 shipping. Should be here by the end of the week.

512 Megs of RAM and a 2.4GHZ P4 should be a nice trade up from My 196 Meg 600Mhz PIII.

This will be my third used IBM box. I have had nothing but good luck with IBM hardware.

I am going to try plugging my old system drive, recordings drive, video card and PVR 150 into the new machine and hope the OS detects the new Mobo/CPU.

This seems like it is way too easy to work. Anyone ever tried it?

  2 systems using MVP
Posted by: pcostanza - 2007-02-21, 12:26 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (4)

I've not tried this yet but let's say I have 2 separate systems on the network both running GBPVR. If I have both on, and the service running for MVP, will the MVP pick up both systems on the network or only 1? And, if both, any special way this should be set up?

  videoredo chapter file
Posted by: ercuem - 2007-02-20, 10:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (22)

Hi Sub!

It is very hard for me to tell you my problem, cause my poor english, but i'll try it.

If i'm using Comskip to search for commercials i'm getting a commercial cut list for GB-PVR like this.

FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE 82088 FRAMES AT 2500
-------------------
1 8551
82087 82088

ok this works too if i'm cutting out this:

FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE 82088 FRAMES AT 2500
-------------------
than I'm having just the frame numbers like this and GB-PVR over jumps correctly the commercials-

1 8551
82087 82088

but if I'm making handly a txt file whith the same frame numbers at the same position, gb-pvr won't parsing the cut list.

Why could this be ??

The reason why i need a hand made cut list is, that Videoredo is able to make a txt file, with the cut framenumbers exactly the same like comskip but gb-pvr don't want to parsing it.
If gb-pvr could open the txt file of Videoredo.I could make handly a cut list with videoredo in less than 30 sec.
With a 100% result.

Short= Why do GB-PVR not understand a cut list made by videoredo but by comskip

I hope you have understood everything.

If not please learn German or Turkish Smile

Thank you

Native MPEG specs for the MVP.
Posted by: Azimuth - 2007-02-20, 10:17 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (20)

Does anyone know what mpeg2 settings are best to encode to for native playback on the MVP (through GBPVR).
I'm encoding my DVD's to mpeg2 using TMPGENC pro. I am currently doing CQ_VBR with ranges 600 - 3000 at 720x480 23.97 fps (NTSC FILM)

  Changing DVB bitrate
Posted by: tieke - 2007-02-20, 09:55 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Just wondered whether there was an easy way of changing the bitrate of DVB-recorded programs, or whether it was set by the satellite source. I am recording SD, FTA programs in NZ using a Twinhan DVB-S card, and as they are saved as 12000kbps files, I have to transcode them to bring them back to within standard specs if I burn them to DVD (I think the upper limit for standard DVD PAL files is 9800kbps).

Is there any simple way of having them record at a lower bitrate by default?

cheers,

tieke

  Slow Motion Video Playback
Posted by: Synaptyc - 2007-02-20, 09:35 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I am experiencing random slow motion audio/video playback on shows I record.
It doesn't happen on all recordings, just every few days one will be goofed up, and only play in slow-mo.
I have a fresh Windows XP Pro installation.
graphics card = Nvidia MX440
tuner = WinTV PVR USB2
codec installed = DivX (for playback of downloaded content)
I have used VMR9 & VMR7 and received the same results.
Any tips on how to fix this?
... my wife is getting pissed when I get a corrupt recording of Heroes or American Idol... Rolleyes

colored buttons suggestion for MCE remote?
Posted by: timeless - 2007-02-20, 09:30 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I got my MCE remote working with HIP but wasn't sure what to do about the colored buttons since I don't have any. I ended up using the four buttons across the top, my tv, my music, etc (not sure what they are, i am at school right now) and just told myself to remember the order "Y RGB"

Any other solutions? I might change it to use the vol buttons, since I control the vol on my receiver (but that is just 2 buttons).
