I just got a used MSI TV@nywhere Master thrown in with some other stuff I bought, so I figured I might as well try it out, and GB-PVR looks awesome.
In configuration, I made a new Capture Source.
Recording Source: Direct Recording plugin
Capture card type: Conexant BlackBird (since that's what the TV@nywhere uses). I'm sure this is right since if I check "Only show devices listed in this machine" the BlackBird is still listed.
It seems to me that while the .Net runtime does its job of protecting the software with manifest checking for unintended dll's, that the structure we're using for the plugins and utilities walks us back into dll hell.
While the plugin dll's are in the \Plugins subfolder of gbpvr, many of them share dlls located in the gbpvr folder. Some of them assume that whatever is there is fine and they share it (which may give them manifest errors), while others install their own dlls, overwriting what gbpvr or some other plugin or utilities may have installed (giving something else the manifest error).
I'm not a developer so perhaps there are better or more clever ways to solve this, but one alternative would be for any plugin to explicitly install its dlls into its own sub-folder of the \Plugins folder. E.g., the XRecord dll would be in ..\Plugins, but any dlls or other support files it had to install would be in ..\Plugins\XRecord folder.
One advantage of that solution is that it requires no changes at all to gbpvr -- just advice and encouragement to the plugin writers to change to the new system. The other side of the coin, though is that it means there are no teeth in enforcement. An alternative would be to totally change the present system in a way where any plugin that doesn't comply with the new scheme won't be found and won't load.
Also, any non-plugin utilities (e.g., zaptools, GetTheaterListings, etc.) should also be constrained or contained in a similar fashion.
My purpose here isn't to argue for any particular solution -- only that this is begging to be solved.
I downloaded the latest zaptools in order to get the fix to stop the bloated db3 database.
After I loaded zaptools, gbpvr no longer starts. (I have 3 MVPs. No messages in the log appear, with with Task Manager I can see that it continually tries to startup a gbpvr for each MVP. They each start, then disappear shortly thereafter, and the recording service keeps trying to start new ones, which also die.)
I found that the version of ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll installed by gbpvr is 0.5.0.0. The version installed by zaptools (thereby overwriting gbpvr's) is 0.84.0.0. So, I presume that the instances of gbpvr are each dying with a manifest error. If I restore a 0.5.0.0 (from an old directory I have), then gbpvr is healthy again, but zaptools fails with a manifest errror.
Have you noticed support sites that are starting to setup live chat interfaces. Quite interesting. Tried this at work with a vendor and it was better than I though (cf telephone). As you talk through an issue the support rep can ask for "can I see this config/logfile" and you just copy/paste it directly into the live chat window. e.g.
Today, 12-August, I rebuilt gbpvr with .97.13 and got the latest XRecord off the wiki.
Now XRecord fails with a manifest error for System.Data.SQLite. It wants version 1.0.27.1, but the version in the \gbpvr folder is 1.0.30.1
So I checked the folder in which I had gbpvr .97.9 installed. System.Data.SQLite there was also 1.0.30.1, but there XRecord had been OK. So I grabbed the XRecord from which I had built that, which I still had (ZIP file date 26-June; exe date 21-May), installed that in the .97.13 folder, and it was fine.
So, somehow the latest version of XRecord installed on the wiki has reverted to an older System.Data.SQLite, and this causes a manifest error with gbpvr .97.13
I have an ATI RADEON 9550 hooked up to a Sony WEGA 36" SDTV through S-Video. I am running the latest Omega Drivers. I have my resolution set for 720x480 60Hz, and have "Video Mode" enabled so it overscans the video. Due to this I had to adjust the overscan values in the config.xml file for GBPVR since the menus and OSD's were extending off the screen. I have a couple "issues" with the display. Along the edges are wavy (the main menu buttons are not vertically straight, they are wavy along the edge), and also the text on the outer parts of the picture are not crisp or clear, more blurry. In the center of the picture the text looks good, just on the outer edges. If I view the main menu screen over VNC it looks very crisp, so I know its something with the TV out settings. Also, while watching tv (or recorded programs), if there is small fine white print (like the fine print in commercials at the bottom of the screen), the text is blurry and has a slight flicker to it. As the text is faded out, the letters become readable and crisp. I am still learning about video stuff and all the settings, so I am sure its just a matter of tweaking some levels, but I don't know which ones would affect that. Can anyone point me in the right direction to help clear this up? Thanks.
I was curious what would happen if I tried a very old dongle.bin on my new H series MVP. That MVP is now dead. So if you're tempted to try really old dongle.bin files on your new MVP - dont do it...
I had gbpvr installed and recorded a few shows with it... Now that I've reinstalled it.. Those shows dont show up in the "recordings". I saved "recording-dump.xml" b4 I uninstalled it.. Wouldn't I be able to copy it back into the root directory and the shows will be in the "recordings" section? If not.. How can I point the new installation to my old recordings. I know I can just put them in my Videos directory but... I wanna access them through the "recordings" section... aarrgghh!! Help me!!!
I've probably spent 16 hours now trying to get GB-PVR to wok with my VBox Cats Eye USB 3560 ATSC tuner. I've also read a lot of the treads and they have been quite helpfull. Here is a little history of what I've done.
HP Laptop
Microsoft Windows XP (Media Center Edition) Version 2002
Service Pack 2
AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-37
1.99 GHz, 1GB RAM
Configured VBox Cats Eye USB 3560 (ATSC) {used Graph Edit}
Set up Zap2it EPG
Mapped digital channels
Disabled Media Center services
Started GB-PVR and able to see EPG
Click on Live TV and I see the signal light (VBox Cats Eye) for reception turns on but I get a Black screen with no video and no error.
For some reason (after a few days) the EPG now does not show up!!!
(But the Update EPG works and my subscription has not expired and I have a line up.)
Set DBA Multiplexer to "Microsoft DVR-MS" since using XP SP2
Added latest version of NativeUtilities.dll (had to stop GB Recording service)
Ran MuxChecker and found nothing, so I then did the following
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpg2splt.ax
Ran Muxchecker again and still "NO MULTIPLEXER FILTERS FOUND"
Would it be possible to have a "default" playlist or netradio url that is played during the silent parts of gbpvr menu navigation or during "video only" videos or slideshows.
This would make the MediaMVP more useful as a "headless" audio player and would also make it easier to have sound during your photo slideshows.
