is there a way to prevent the programme descriptions being truncated on the web?

Ive checked the xml data file and the information is there.

The row height in the browser adjusts to accomodate more information, but is there a limit stopping it expanding beyond a certain height because some of the more lenghty descriptions are truncated?

I have uploaded a new version of the Pictures plugin (it's been a while I know!:

version 1.4 for GB-PVR v0.21
- Slideshow is now compatible with the MediaMVP provided GBPVR v0.21 or above is installed.
- Slideshow default length per slide changed to 7 seconds
- Added Image Caption functionality: If a file exists in the same directory as an image with the
same name as the image, but with a .txt extension, the first line of that file is displayed
as a caption to the image in full screen mode.

My MVP, which has worked great, suddenly decided it wasn't happy. It wouldn't respond to the remote, so I rebooted it, it connects to the network, pulls a DHCP address, then sticks on "Loading Application". I restarted the GB-PVR MediaMVP Service, no luck, restarted the recording service, no luck, rebooted the entire PC, no luck.

It looks to be listening on the right port, from a netstat, I see:

Hi everyone,

I've just finished building a GBPVR box and I'd like to post what I experienced for the benefit of those people contemplating building a machine from scratch.

The donor machine I selected was a fairly mediocre Athlon XP 1800 using a cheap ECS K7S5A motherboard with 512MB of PC2100 RAM. I was lucky to buy a Hauppauge WinTV 350 with a free bundled 80GB deskstar drive so that dealt with any storage issues. For connectivity, I used a non descript 802.11b wireless PCI card and bunged it in slot 5, as far away from the Hauppage card as I could. The WinTV went in slot 2 as i'd read of potential issues with slot 1 and for video out, I used an OLD Asus V6800 AGP video card with TV out. Audio is a generic AC97 system built into the board. I installed XP pro, using the drivers on the Hauppauge CD to install the 350, patched it up complete with the .NET framework and topped it all off with SP2. I then went to the Hauppauge Web site, downloaded all the latest drivers and application builds and cleared down/re-installed the card.

For remote control, I selected an IR200L to drive my sky digibox. Next thing was to install GBPVR itself and that's when problems started.

I had issues with random hanging of the system and suffered big problems with Live out which always locked GBPVR up completely. VMR9, VMR7 and overlay manager modes didn't work and things generally were misfiring.

Thinking my old graphics card was to blame, I went out and bought a generic FX5200 card which was the lowest spec I could find that supported DirectX 9 and hence VRM9. Installing this card didn't cure the problem, so I changed tack and used an approach that has produced a working system aside from niggles with the IR control. Although I can't vouch for these steps, they worked for me and delivered a stable and working setup.

1. Make a GBPVR install CD containing XP service pack 1, the latest Hauppauge driver set (unzipped) and applications, GBPVR itself and any other drivers and updates you need, except XP SP2. You can alternatively run Windows update and get what you need online for things like Direct X 9.

2. Take the PC chassis and clear down the NVRAM before starting the install. Check that your BIOS settings are optimised for your setup before you begin if you have to do a hard reset of the CMOS.

3. Boot the XP install CD with the WinTV card removed from the system initially. Peform a base install and get your graphics board and sound up and running.

4. Patch to SP1 and grab all the latest driver and security updates but don't get SP2 at this stage. Make sure you get the .NET 1.1 framework and DirectX 9.

5. Power down and install the WinTV card, avoiding the first and last PCI slots on the motherboard. Boot up and install using your own install CD, *NOT* the CD that came with the unit.

6. Install the WinTV decoders and apps.

7. Install GBPVR and test everything thoroughly

8. If things are working OK you can go ahead and install XP SP2 - you can always roll it back if things break.

Hope this helps someone.

Don't forget that you can set restore points in XP at each stage in the installation process if you're concerned about a step you think might blow things up!

Hi,
I've just finished building a GBPVR recorder and the only thing that remains to be fixed up is the infrared control. I'm having difficulties getting my grundig digibox to understand the IR transmissions. The IR200L is installed under XP and sits on COM2. The training mode works fine in GBPVR but getting the timing right is a bit tricky when pressing each button. I've created a profile by training it with my sky remote but when I go try to make a recording, the channel number always ends up wrong. I can see the IR receive LED flash on the box 3 times so at least the right number of signals are being passed. Can anyone suggest any settings I need to check to get this to work correctly?

Many apologies if this has been asked before (or if I have failed to read the FAQs thouroughly enough! but can GB-PVR installed on a client machine access files stored on a server?

I'm thinking that I might use my existing PC, configured as a server, for recording tv/radio, etc, and link it through to a small HTPC client, containing basically just an X-card, for replay.

Can this be done?

I got 2 little problem cases here;

Recurring recordings: I try to schedule some to take place Mon-Fri, but somehow GB-PVR seems to only schedule the first of the five weekdays next to come (and I need to re-enter the recording command every weekday even if I do it from the recurring menu & of course set to Mon-Fri). It doesn't do that when I record every day of the week. Also, should GB-PVR automatically update the "Pending" list ? I ask because if you go in it, it ususally won't list much further than the upcoming week (so I wonder whether I need to re-enter recurring recording instructions once a week).

I/F with Plextor ConvertX M402U; I'm wishing to use the MPEG2 formats available by this device. All is OK until I try to cut out commercials using the Intervideo software supplied with the ConvertX; no matter what permutations I've made of quality settings between those available with this software and GB-PVR, I always end up with a lengthy recompression (which won't happen except immediately before & after cuts when I capture with the Intervideo software & maintain the same quality settings). I guess what's required is the exact compression settings at both ends; how do I achieve that ? (I went into GB-PVR settings but it doesn't seem to memorize settings changes, like default from Medium to something else).

One thing I’d love to be able to do is play DivX through my MVP. The current beta release of the Hauppauge MVP server program does this and it would be awesome if GBPVR could incorporate this into a future build.

Anyone know how to set the zip code for the weather plugin without using the config program? I ask because when I select the weather plugin in the config program, I get an error. If anyone has any info on this, I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thanks!!
