I think it should still be there. The new file will have a different extension.
When you want to transcode from e.g. divx to xvid, that would mean you would be writing to the same filename ( xxx.avi to xxx.avi), that doesn't work.

Edit: sorry I was wrong, the old file got overwritten, and the new file is only very small.

add a double extension to the profiles in config.xml...
like:
Code:
<Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 224 -ac 2 -acodec mp3 -deinterlace -vcodec xvid -b 1250k -vtag XVID {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=[b]".xvid.avi"[/b] />

and it should work, new file will be named filename.xvid.avi and won't overwrite the old one while keeping .avi as actual extension...
[plus adding some info about what was changed in it]
i think sub should make that change on all the profiles for this very reason...and it doesn't break anything else...
that way can do mpg->mpg and avi->avi transcodes without destroying the original file..

That's a good trick pBS, but it looks like we could still really use an error message that halts the user when they try to run a transcode when the source and target extension match. Even if sub made this change a user could add their own transcode that inadvertently trashes the file.
